I know if my floor has delaminated,I am supposed to use vspecial glue to re-bond the foam to the timber. But has anyone tried,or know of any reason not to,screwing from the top into strenghthing bottons below?Or simply nuts & bolts straight through the floor, using countersunk screws & large washers to spread the load.Thanks,Maria.

One very good reason NOT to do as you are suggesting is that it simply will not work.

Reasons:

1. The floor is made of a sandwich of ply, foam insulation and ply.

It would be almost impossible to locate battens and screwing into foam is a waste of time.

2, Using long nuts and bolts will only exacerbate the problem with a floor which resembles a switchback ride.

You have already said you know you should use a special bonding glue,,,,,then do that.

I also did mine a few years ago; follow the instructions and take lots of time to prepare. Very successful with kit from internet.

Don't underestimate the mess that can ensue, cover the ground under the 'van with a tarp or plastic. My drive still has a plastic puddle!

Support the floor underneath if there is any sagging, and have weights (bricks/blocks) ready for the top of the floor to ensure good flat bonding. Again, you need plastic sheeting to prevent sticking.

I drew a grid on the floor to ensure good even coverage.

Time for new carpets!
