Whilst staying on a CL, if on a few occasions you had to get into your car and drive off site before sunrise, how inconsiderate would this be viewed by other campers and the cl owners?

Obviously we would be as quiet as possible but closing car doors and starting up a diesel engine..........

Just getting opinions.

Never stayed on a CL but it wouldnt bother me. As long as it was clear that you were trying to avoid unnecessary noise I'd be supportive (figuratively speaking. I wouldn't actually get out of bed to give you a hand).

We'd never manage it as all hitching and unhitching manouvers require an exchange of words!

Actually just re-read your post. I assumed you mean't with van, but possibly not. Same applies anyway.

As long as you have paid and make as little noise as possible I see no problem, we have had some do that without paying!! That is arriving late at night and leaving early, must say to date its been motor home users , is this a credit crunch trend we have to expect?

Thanks for the replies.

I should have made myself a little clearer. We need to leave well before sunrise to get to locations so we arrive at our destination before sunrise for photography purposes. I think if we parked the car near the entrance/exit, that should minimise things slightly.

Another prob we might encounter is we have to take the two dogs, although very well trained, they will get a bit excited.

I thought I'd ask people's opinions as personally, under normal circumstances if people were as courteous as possible if they drove out at an early hour, it wouldn't bother us in the slightest but we'd hate to upset anyone.

We often get desturbed on Cls, we are light sleepers, it is annoying, but part of the CL experience.

On the last CL outing it was a campervan leaving at 6am, 50m away, rattle of the diesel, banging off the doors, glad he didn't come back.

But isn't all this the reason why we enjoy caravanning?

Just a bit of excitment.
 
Lisa, as has been suggested, leave the car as far away from other vans as possible. At least then you will have made every effort not to disturb others.The doga are slightly more of a problem, but yours are well behaved anyway, as long as you don't let them bark continuously, I don't think there'd be a problem.
 
Have stayed at numerous CL's over the years and have been awoken by early morning risers (as you get on all other sites).

Not a problem as far as I am concerned if the early risers then leave the site as soon as possible. We just turn over and go back to sleep. Life has to go on even when you are caravanning.

My neighbour at home is much worse though. He has a rusty old Volvo which he insists on starting up (more so this winter to defrost his windows) and leaving the engine running in order to heat up his car.

Relax.

Loads of people using CLs are early risers. Just be sensible and keep the noise to a minimum. Some CLs will let you park your outfit well away from the others if you need to pull out very early.

If you are on a CL I would have thought that it only takes a few minutes to explain to the other 4 (max) lots of caravanners and take the 'sting' out of it.

That's what we have always done.

Hi Lisa

As long as the dogs are safe, just catch doors then close them properly when away from site. Many people appear to not even try to close the doors as quietly as possible!
