Just been away on holiday, caravan dented by enthuiastic children celibrating englands win last saturday playing football.beckem free kick curled straight into the back panel of my 2week old bailey avergue

explained situation to parents who whilst unhappy agreed to pay for damage.................£846.00 including vat to repair back panel.

i knew it was going to happen,i was lucky,as it happened whilst i was in the caravan but how often do you return to your van from a nice walk, day out and then discover probably when you get home and clean it that these dents have appeared!!!!!!!!!!!!

hopefully from this listing parents included will discorage children from kicking balls around caravans that cost lots of money.the parents were shocked at the cost of my damage with equates mainly to labour costs

Fair play to the parents who have agreed to pay the bill!

A sobering story to all those parents who think it ok to let "little Johny" (and "Jane") play and do what they want!

Hi Dave

Sorry to hear of the incident. However, it's refreshing to learn that although the parents were unhappy to foot the bill, they have agreed.

Sometimes, it's over enthusiastic dads who cause damage whilst kicking the ball as I witnessed the other weekend.

Surely when talking about football being played on sites people must mean private ones. I have never seen it on C.C. sites with the exception of where there has been a dedicated play field like Moreton in the Marsh.

A word of warning Dave, make sure you had witnesses or have it in writing that they accept full responsibility. I have known people go back on their word and deny it on the advice of their insurance company/representative.

A person ran into the back of my car at a junction, the female was all upset and said she knew she shouldn't be driving because she was worrying about her mother, who was in hospital. By coincidence my wife knew her and because my car was an old banger and I was selling it at auction the following week I told her to forget it.

That evening I had a call from her insurance agent accusing me of rolling back into her. She denied she had hit me. I then had a grilling about MY car / tax / insurance details although I had told her to forget it. I could see what the sleazy lump of shite was trying to do. He thought because I had told her to forget the accident I probably had no tax or insurance and his whole demeanour was very intimidating (well for a while it was). I then got angry and gave that t*rdbrain a piece of my mind, hehheh! He hung up when he couldn't get a word in and I heard no more about it. I still see that female to this day but she can't even look me in the eye.

Just be careful Dave because theres some unscrupulous b********s out there with no morals or scruples. How they sleep at night I don't know. Rant over, back to my Horlicks :O) Nearly time for Old Windy's Viagra hehheh!

You were a lucky chap Dave. As previously suggested I'd try to get acceptance from the pareant and any witness statements all in writing.

My wife once had a guy drive into the side of our car as he was to distracted trying to negotiate a 6ft 6in wide exit from a side street.

When he volenteered that it was all his fault, I asked him to write it down. (biggest mistake ever). He promptly wrote his conffession which I took to my insurers who now have it framed on the wall of fame. Needless to say we got full payout and I'm sure he got ditched by his insurance.

Now in total contrast, my mate came home fuming the other day,he'd parked in the local carpark and some idiot had backed into his door. They had left a note as he thought with their name and address on.

But it read. I'm writing this cos folks are looking, they think I'm leaving my name and address, but TUFF!!

Anyway I'd best go and chastise the muppet next door who thinks he's Rooney, my van is a one of a kind and 24 years old so replacement panels are not on the shelf unfortunately.

May be all parents reading this could encourage the kids to play in the appropriate area's. I enjoy playing footy, rugby and cricket, but in wide open places as I'm a lousy shot. Holidays should be fun for all of us but not at huge expence.

Good luck with your repair, you'll need it.

Steve.

It is not always children but grown ups who can be just as thoughtless. I found one father playing cricket with his family, using my van as long stop, and using a cricket ball. I now try to avoid sites that are open plan and prefer to be backed up to a hedge.

I used to go to Home Farm, Somerset regularly. There is a foot crossing across the railway line from one of the camping fields. This is a main line and trains are travelling at 100mph+. It was quite usual in early evenings to see fathers, never mothers, with toddlers and children congregating by the crossing and putting coins etc on the track. The fathers normally had a can of beer and it appeared to be great fun to alarm the train driver so he had to sound his horn.

My work takes me on the railway and I am certified to work go alone on the track for patrol and inspection purposes and have seen the result of animals and people being hit. I gave up going to the site as I found it to stressful.

Sorry to hear about the Damage to your Van, was there any notice on site saying no Ball Games, if not I would ask the site to enforce this Rule in the light of what has happened.

I personaly think it strange - and your observations back this up that you have to have a licence to fish, a licence to drive, a licence for a shotgun, a licence to fly a plane and you need to be qualified to practice medicine, gualified to practice law as well as accountancy and teaching! - but you can produce children after after a few too many lagers.

I dodn't let mu sons play ball on the 'field' - we'd take them to where they couldn't do any damage..... There are usually notices on sites banning ball games yet parents think its OK to ignore them. make me furious!

Luckily for you the parents agreed to pay - bet most won't though.

That's what makes you a responsible parent Julie.

Unfortunately the same can't be said for all adults... which is such a shame for the kids that aren't taught any respect and a real worry for the caravanners that work hard to have nice (and very often) expensive 'vans.
