Dents and fitting something to cover them.

I was away last week and after putting the awning up I forgot I left my hammer for the pegs in the awning, then put a couple of camp chairs on top of it. My Daughter managed to notice it somehow and while my wife was in the caravan for something she heard this heavy tapping sound. When she looked out she shrieked at the site of my Daughter doing Bob the Builder on the side of the caravan with the hammer. There are five tiny dents all within six inches square of each other. I was thinking about getting a Truma awning warmer outlet fitted to that area and that would take away the part where the dents are, but its a bit small. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks. Andy.

We had a problem like this a few years ago.

OH decided he was going to do something to the windows upstairs and got the ladders out. Did the job, came in for lunch and forgot the ladders which by then got caught in a gust of wind and fell towards the caravan. Just by chance, and luckily, the ladders just clipped a panel in the'van just above a window at the front. The damage was, a small dent about 2 inches wide which had split the skin. We took the advice of our local dealer, plugged the hole with Blue Tac and took it for repair the next week. They very cleverly disguised the area with a dummy vent cover, and it looked perfect.

Hope this helps.

Is that what they call an 'Ooops'? I assume your daughter is still in one piece?

You don't mention what the panel is made of, aluminum or ABS. If it is aluminium then repair is probably not realistic, but you may be able to repair ABS. I also assume that young daughter is little, and we are talking about the section at the bottom of the panel. Does it access an under seat area and would an outside locker door be a new mod to look at? Also how about 2 outside electrical points? I am serious as we all seem to need more than one in the awning.

I think that firstly I would ask the dealer about repair possibilities before looking at additions. Or if you plan on keeping the van for a long time then leave it as is as a reminder to tidy up???? Have fun.

Andy hope you don't mind me sneaking this one in under your posting. At Easter we were putting our awning up for the first time and the two top poles that fix to the van fell and we have 4 tiny dents. We have not done anything with them. Should we be getting them repaired or is it ok to leave them. Thanks Denise.

Hi Andy,

My heart goes out to you believe me! I had my previous van damaged by the corner of a box trailer some years ago. It was obvious that it was the guys trailer had done the damage but he wouldn't admit it- you know the sort of thing- the right height, the right shape of damage but what do you do if the person responsible hasn't got a conscience? Anyway, to get back to the point, we repaired it by having a false air vent fitted. No one ever knew any different- except me of course and it didn't look at all out of place!
