I have a Ford Kuga with a factory fitted detachable towball, it states on the kit 100kg max weight.

I have a Baily Ranger GT60 380/2

I am confused as to whether I can safely tow with this towball

Can anyone help please....?

The 100kg refers to the maximum permissible noseweight. You will find what you can actually tow either in your owner's handbook or on the vehicle's VIN plate. According to data that I have available, the towload limit is at least 1500kg and up to 2100kg for some variants. The fact that the towball is detachable is irrelevant.

Thanks for that

Although the tow hitch may be able to take 100 kg you also need to ascertain what is the maximum noseweight allowed for your van, and keep to the lower of the 2. Most vans are around 75-80 kg.

I think you'll find it the other way round, Scotch Lad. Most cars, other than 4x4's are 75-80kg. Caravans usually have a 100kg limit, except for the very biggest ones.

Hi John

Slightly off the topic, I know, but have you checked Pins 9 and 10 on your Ford 13-pin wiring loom? I too have a Kuga and found that the standard Ford loom does all the road lights etc, but not Pin 9 (required for the Alko ATC) and Pin 10 for the fridge and charger whilst on the move.

Just a thought ...
