Detroit's tow car stars

It's difficult to glean much, if anything, about announcements in America - any towing information would be based on their low ratings for cars, fear of legal action keeps them low there, and any fuel consumption figures are based on EPA tests and the small US-gallon.

How's about taking a selection of UK tow-cars to America and subjecting them to their towing test - SAE J2807 otherwise known as the "Davis Dam Grade" test, an 11.4 mile run gaining 3,000' in altitude with aircon on full blast, never dropping below 40mph - also has to accelerate 0-60 in 30 seconds maximum on the level - and start on a 12% hill five times in five minutes, forwards AND REVERSE - that would sort out some of the excessively high towing limits on UK cars.

Or perhaps show up how poor the American cars really are
These days, they're mostly a variant of what we buy here - "One Ford" is unifying the transatlantic product range - all the Chevrolets up to the Impala are based on Opel/Vauxhalls, as are their Buick equivalents, even some Cadillacs - and of course the Japanese, Korean and German manufacturers sell their models both sides of the pond, BMW and Mercedes-Benz SUVs being built in America and shipped to Europe.
