Hi All, hope everyone is well, not been on for a while as I haven't been able to type, drive or caravan as I tore some thumb ligaments which meant a pot on and no driving! Booooo!

But I'm back and I've been playing out B)

Did any one get up to anything fun over the Easter weekend?

We at the last minute managed to get on a site in Knight Stainforth which is on the edge of Settle, which is a lovely little village, but if your not up for walking it might not be for you as the nearest shop is a 3 mile walk or drive!

But that is missing the point of it, as it's all about the views, and what views they are!

Every window was filled by wonderful countryside.

We even made a friend whilst setting up!

We got there Thursday very early on to miss all the traffic and get set up so we could go in hunt of beer and grub! It was only an hour or so from home which was a nice change, it can get pretty tight passing stuff on the little single track roads but no problems as long as you leave plenty of braking distance and slow right down on the many blind bends, I'm sure some people don't believe in oncoming traffic!

There is a brilliant little pub in Stainforth itself called the Craven Heifer which we would recommend if anyone is in the area, very good food and local beers on at very reasonable costs, 2 meals and 2 drinks for less than £25.

The pub had a pet, bit hard to see but there is a 13 day old lamb next to the fire :)

The site itself had showers, toilets and a laundry/washing up area in a little block which were all very clean even though the site must have been at or near capacity, same with the bins, they were all emptied every day, it was a very good site and only cost £98.50 for 4 nights with electric and that was over a bank holiday.

The bit we stayed on was grass though and it was very soft due to the rain they had over the last week, no issues though with getting set up other than a cracked front pair of leg stay pads!

I also saw the coolest camper ever, Unimog!

We spent a couple of days in the local towns surrounding us, we walked onto Settle one day for an explore, but lovely as it is there isn't much to do so the Saturday we went upto Hawes where there is Wensleydale Creamery which is worth a visit, they have a cheese making demonstration and a tour which is interesting and the village has some great little shops and pubs also.

On the Sunday we took a trip to Ingleton and did the falls walk which is a set path with a map around the major 5 waterfalls, again a bit of a trek, and according to my phone we walked up 55 flights of stairs!

A great walk though with some stunning views.

And then back home on the Monday :(

Can't wait for the next trip out, thinking of Ripley next time!

Hope I've not bored you all completely!

Cheers

Liam

Hi Liam, yes we did, live in Devon and went to Cornwall to Gwithian, lovely site, pub opposite site with a beer festival all weekend, went to the Falmouth maritime museum, The minack theatre, St Ives for lunch one day,
and sevearal other little places, (kept away from the big towns, get fed up standing outside shops), had a lovely walk along Gwithian sands as the sun was setting, but I forgot my camera!!
Cant wait for the next one.

By the way love the unimog, I want one!

Coincidence! Saw the Unimog in Scotland last year (unless there's 2?) parked near it on a CC site. (Wife just gone away to try to remember which one) Box on very high chassis?

Yes that's the one, it was unbelievably high, it would have been brilliant on the roads round there as you would have been able to see over the hedges.

Theteaboy, (Matt) looks like you have not ticked the private view box on your flicker account, it is open for any one to see. the links at the bottom of the photos allows access, you might not mind and did it on purpose if so I apologise

We had 8 nights at Stanmore Hall, Bridgnorth. Lovely site - level, clean, great facilities. It has a lake! And peacocks! And ducks! We went all over...RAF Cosford; Leicestershire; Wroxeter roman city; Ironbridge. Came home for a rest!

We've banked a few for a further outing. Also, as Sir Fixalots' sister lives in Bewdley, we did see rather a lot of family, which slightly curtailed our other outings! We did get to the Gadget Show Live, tho!

We were on the Cc site at Durham. For anyone interested it is just of the motorway and a good touring site or as a stopover for those passing. For us it was a chance to visit family and attend my mothers 91st birthday. After that it was York for more family visits. Could not get in on club sites so tried Naburn Lock, very similar type of site and cheaper than the clubs. Will probably use it again.

We spent all day at a dealer returning our brand new caravan due to the fact there were no lights across the rear, after we had spent one night in it.

Looks a great place, we stayed at a place in North wales near Mold. Site named Fron Farm.

Fantastic location and a really friendly site. Its a working farm too, so the kids loved it.

Hi there, we went back to Plough Lane at Chippenham (adults only) with my parents in their little motor home for the first week of Easter Holidays. After glorious weather we had an horrendous week - the only 'fun' part of the week for us was the feeling of being inside a washing machine as our Swift Challenger (1.5 tonnes) and Varkala Air Awning was biffed, buffeted, blown, banged and basically nearly tipped over!!! I jest, but at one point I did actually wake up OH and tell him how scared I was. His reply was to open the window blind, tell me the awning was still there and presume snoring! I lay awake all that night as it was truly terrifying. Unbeknown to me my poor disabled Dad had to get up and get up, get dressed (no mean feat in the dark, in a small Renault Traffic with 2 replacement hips, and rescue his silver screen which was all but hanging on by a thread. They were kept awake by their awning straps which Dad has to throw over their van - banging and twanging all night despite being knotted and having pegs on them. I kid you not, the noise was horrendous in the day when the wind was about 60mph. On this particular evening (the Monday) the wind reached approximately 98 mph! Our blinds were rippling inside the van, the awning looked as if it was being deflated then inflated by an invisible giant - but, I can honestly say that it all survived the experience, even if it did take my parents and I a couple of days to get over the lack of sleep. That night approximately 40 trees were brought down in the area we were in, and we saw several examples of this.

Air awnings proved to be a better awning than those with traditional metal poles as one poor seasonal caravanner on site had to return to take down their Isabella awning which looked as if a giant had picked up the awning and crushed the poles, the wind had caused irreparable damage.

We can look back now and laugh but it was galling when we returned home to basically what has been fabulous weather ever since!!!!

P.S. there was one plus point - the noise of the wind, rain and awning flapping did indeed drown out most of OH's snoring. Every cloud .... :cheer:
