I have just purchased a new digital/analogue tv for home/caravan. Will my normal round aerial on the roof receive a digital signal, or do I need to upgrade to a directioal aerial?

The Status 315 (mushroom) will receive a digital signal just as badly as it receives analogue!

The nature of digital signals needs a more direct "line-of-sight" than analogue, made worse by the low mounting of caravan aerials, compared to houses, so don't expect too much.

A directional aerial will always be better than omni-directional like the 315 BUT it really does depend where you caravan - sites near large conurbations will get better signals from their nearby transmitter than rural sites a considerable distance away.

Thanks Roger

So the best thing is to keep a seperate aerial & mast with directioal aerial just incase onboard one doesn't work. Or pay out silly money to change the omni to a directional!

Hello Mike ,I have to say I have been in ares where the status aerial has worked both terestial and digital but as has already been said you need to be close to a transmitter for them to bhe any good at all.

Alot of us on thisforum seem to be going down the satellite in the case route and incidently I have just heard chennel 4 is now is on sat in a case system.

Goods luck which ever you decide on .

Sir Roger

As well as the aerial the actual digital tuner within the TV or digibox is an important aspect.

My new nan has a "MobileTv" and this struggles at some locations to get a viable signal and therefore a picture. However uncouple the coax and use my "Sony Bravia 15" and its finding umpteen programs and giving an excellent picture where the MobileTv fails to get anything. Same aerial different TV and chalk and cheese differences in performance. Thankfully the Sony will fit in the location and the MobileTv can fit on Ebay.

Aerials Status 530,this time and when fitted to the previously van has been a good unit, streets better than the old vans original 315.
