hi all,
heres a good one for you, how do you set up a satelite dish with no satelite finder, a broken compass and no houses near with a dish set up plus which one do you point it at.

Connect dish to telly and put signal strength screen on... Find a tree... Find green side of trunk on said tree... Point dish in opposite direction to said green side of tree... Move dish slowly to the left...

hi folks,
thanks for the replies although I posed a retorical question there is a reason for it,
on the strength of being able to go away soon i purchased one of the aldi special free to air kits.
however on opening the box to have a look and test it at home soon realised that without a sat finder or compass. it would be almost impossible to locate a satlelite let alone the right one without hours of fiddling about,
even with all the kit it took more than a hour before it worked properly,
given that I intend to take the sky box instead of the free box or both how would one find the sky one by trial and error.

If you are using a tripod this makes setting up easy with the aid of a spirit level fastened to the arm
When I set this up at home I marked it for reference for astra 1

As long as the bubble is in the middle I get a picture just by turning the pole gently

A bit like Sprocket I have a 54cm dish with two spirit levels and it sits on the ground. With the levels I can usually find Astra 2 without any problem as you can normally find south except for at niight as my astr(o)a navigation skills are somewaht dusty.

hi guys,
thanks for that very informative, i was assuming that the elevation, and polarisation would have to be altered as well as the azimuth,
every time the dish was set up,
so basicaly set it up at home mark everthing as level when right as a baseline, and then point it in the right direction,

as an aside which satelite you you point at to get all the free channels inc 5 as most seem to be full of foreign tripe,
it seems selecting the right one is crucial as astra 2 which the sky is on is different from free sat judging by the blocked channels scanned. ok if we take the skybox, but???.

Using your sky box is very easy, & you will get the same channels when away in the van as you do at home, you will be able to watch all of your local news & local channels, whilst sat at either end of the country, or even abroad for that matter ...
Or plug your freeview one in & it will work ok....

You will soon have it masterd down to a few mins for setting the system up...
With one of these
