I was away over Christmas and had the awning up in the snow. There were quite a few seasonals with their awnings erected and covered in snow.
It depends how good and strong an awning you have. The weight of snow can be far greater than most realise.
Generally do you leave your awning erected all year.
Whilst I have no problem with an awning up in the snow I would not like to leave it unattended. At least I can brush most of it off each day.

we do leave the awning up all year but our last awning got ruined by the last bout of snow, our last awning was a pyramid nut weve bought a ventura this time
