Do you miss the breakfast table with fixed bed caravans?

We are still looking (and disagreeing)at fixed bed caravans. The table between the single beds at the front of the caravan was very handy for snacks particularly when travelling. Do you bring out the separate table always when eating - the "shelf" provided in most of the fixed bed caravans is really of little use?

eileen it depends on what fixed bed caravan you are looking at. ours is a fixed bed with drawers and folding table. we looked at the bailey and didnt like the idea of not having the table.

We had a fixed bed caravan, and found that the folding/extending top on the central drawers (parallel seating) more than enough for breakfast time. In fact it was big enough for most meals, only requiring the separate table when there were more than two of us.

Out of curiosity, the shelf used for snacks while traveling, how does that work?

We've looked at both Abbey and Bailey and as far as we could see there was only a shelf between the two parallel seats at the front of the caravan. Our existing van has drawers with extending table which is convenient. I dislike having to erect a table just for breakfast/snacks.

We have Series 5 Pageant Burgundy and we had the table/drawers fitted as an optional extra. We have all our indoor meals at that, no problems.

Thanks Ken - sounds a good idea.

We have a Bailey Senator Oklahoma (Series 5) and one of the reasons for choosing it was the combination of fixed bed + long front dinettes + chest of drawers with sliding/folding top for snacks etc. With just the two of us mostly using the 'van, we never bother with the main table.

Hi Eileen

We always use our sliding table for all meals and wouldn't like to be without it. If you do consider a van which requires the use of the full table, try it for size, as some of them are very heavy and could be a nuisance if you had to use it at every meal.

Hi Eileen

You are going through the same thing as us recently, in trying to think of all things when looking for a replacement van. It is exciting but daunting too! Let us know what you finally decide. Best of luck!

We always use the fold out centre table and the bigger table supplied with the van is in the wardrobe at home.

We use the dedicated table store cupboard for a lightweight table with adjustable height legs that is used outside (awning etc)

Bailey supply the centre chest as an extra on the Pageant for about

Hi Eileen,

We used to own a Bailey Pageant Imperial with the centre chest with the fold out table.

We used to use this for the tv dvd player always used the Fold away table for meals.

We have now bought the series 5 Ranger460/4 with the fixed bed,

which does not have the centre chest , you could fit one but this would restrict the seating area. The reason we bought the Ranger instead of the Pageant Bordeaux was the large front window in place of the three smaller ones, gives you much more light and what a view, Also saved a couple of grand on the price.

Royston I know what you nean about one window.

We had 1983(new) Abbey Gt 215 with 3 front windows and when the 1985 ones came out with one window we got one of the windows and sawed out the dividing bars .The window was narrower so the aperture had to be filled in at the sides.

When we traded the van in a few years later nobody noticed !!

We traded it in for the Ace rallyman with one window and then the Equerry with one window but now we have 3 and have got used to it !!

Interesting about the centre draws and table, we'v ealways preferred L fronts even with our current fixed bed, so have no slide out table just the main one.

Never missed the 'quick table' but can see your point. Have breakfast in Bed!!!!
