We presently have our van for sale on Caravan finder. We have been approached by a Polish person who only wants email contact. He is requesting more photos of the van (already four on there and he does not specify exactly what photos he wants). Moreover he is requesting a scan of the CRIS document be emailed to him. We have gone back saying we have decided not to sell as we are suspicious. Does anyone think this is dodgy or am I over reacting?

you have done the right thing in my eyes. if someone is asking for quite a few pictures plus a copy of the CRIS then i would definately be suspicious. its just like sending someone a copy of your car documents. i dont know whther you can but they could call CRIS with your details and transfer names etc as they can call up and pretend to be you.

the only thing i would advertise is descriptions and pictures. they only need to see the paper work as proof of ownership and in that case they would be interested in buying and want to see the van.plus if they will only contact you via email then then what would they do if they wanted to take it further, leave a bag of money somewhere for a swap.lol.

you have done the right thing,we have gut instincts for a reason and there a too many people out there that are just waiting to fall into there scam

when im advertising things i will only receive first contact via email so i can make sure they are serious then swap nu bers but not when im looking to purchase something, i prefer to know who it is im speaking with etc

You have done the right thing, walk away from this sale.

If anyone only wants email contact then that should trigger alarm bells.

Under no circumstances copy, or send scans of the CRIS document to anyone.

The ONLY time the document should be viewed is face to face, and even then, it is only for viewing, NOT copying in any way.

Quite a few years ago.

There used to be the old car log book scam, where they would go to the post office & send off for a new log book from dvla in there name & when the log book came they would go & steal the car...

So what they are trying to do now is just a modern version....

Walk away....

ive just thought how did you know they were polish.lol

another thing i look for when selling things is email address's and really bad spelling. there are lots of email scams also, in the past ive had emails with Dr in the address and the spelling has been apalling as some of these when you reply they make a database of emails and sell them etc. the other scam aswell for smaller items is its my sons birthday and he is currently in africa so i will pay you made and transfer the money via paypal.big no no.

even car documents,we have them in a safe in the wall so if we ever did get burgled they cant have them, all it takes is a quick signature and the car is theres. its apalling how suspicious you have to be nowadays

Comments: Hello, My name is Gabriel and i am from Poland. I am very interested in your caravan. Can you tell me more details about the equipment? Timbo, you did the right thing in pulling away from this sale.

As an example , would anyone in their right minds scan a vehicle log book document and then send it to a total stranger?

I would want to see servicing documents for instance for a caravan, but as for the CRIS documents, that is something you keep private.

Our van has been registered from new on the CRIS register, but when we bought it, I was quite peturbed that when we register the change of ownership costing us

With the huge drop in the pound against the Euro, a lot of used cars are being exported. Many of the cars are going to Ireland (because they also drive on the left), but I could see caravans going all over the place.
