Does The Wife Know Better?

Reading another post about new caravanners and setting up for the first time I am tempted to ask why is it that the "wife" always knows better, or maybe she thinks she does? regarding which pitch to go for, where to park, how to put up the awning, etc, etc: but it is usually us men that get to do the work under a barrarge of disapproval..Ha,Ha.

We regularly "have words" when it comes to putting up the awning and then don't speak to each other, at least until it is up and we then settle down for a coffee and forget about it.

As posted before B'Mal. Park the van and have a cuppa and a wander around the site or something. Have the awning poles marked re front middle rear and where they join up. Get the Awning set up at home and no the routine. The best sport is watching a family at war as they pile out of the car all going in different directions and the only thing louder than the kids is the whirrring battery drill struggling with side steadies as awning poles get scattered in an attempt to decide what goes where.

If you have kids send them to the swings or games room whilst you and the boss relax after your drive and then go into your planned routine.

My wife doesn't care what I do with the awning and doesn't want to get involved, just as long as I get the satellite dish up and running for her first.

I can relate to that! I've found a solution, we pull up on site, we all get out. I say 'oh, shall I find a local shop and get some fresh bread/milk maybe a copy of the Sport for you?' He says 'excellent idea'.

Off I go and take as long as possible. Usually when I get back, the awning has been put up (by husband and child) and everything is hunky dory.

Don't get me wrong guys and galls I have the poles marked up with colours and an arrow marked on the awning to say which way to feed the awning and to be fair to both of us we do get the awning up by working together but usually only after with words of disapproval which are soon forgotten. The kids are long gone so they are not there to help (or hinder) anymore.

I don't know why someone can't design an awning that after it is fed through the caravan channel you just attach a 12v air pump to it and the sides and front supports are blown up like a li-lo. Then we would only need to peg it down....must be some technical reason why it won't work? but look at the weight saving in not having to carry the poles.

Well... Obviously here I must say YES. we are great at pointing out what you should have done, after you failed to do it..

But then I am quite amiable and usually help put the awning up... However I must admit that I am a little nervous this year after my entire thumb nail was almost ripped off by the sharp bit of the awning rail/water trough when Dave tugged at the awning - and forgot to warn me...

Did you manage to clean her nail varnish from the awning?

B'Mal...Indeed it was - Its fine now - almost, It keeps splitting so I have to keep an eye on it, but hey, its not like he meant it, and darn it he's got one of those faces i just cant stay mad at.. even when i really want to! Grrr!

ye ole Salad Dodger... Your concern warms my heart... but luckily I was not wearing polish that day, and i was still left with 9 other long talons, so it wasnt a massive loss, However, my stilletto heal did get jammed in the grass by the force, and as such I had to buy a new pair of shoes, and then my clutch bag didnt match so I had to buy another bag to go with it... and as i felt so traumatized by the event, I had to go on a theraputic shopping spree...

LOL! No, but it is something I should consider, as my children, Megan Storm, Mercedes Chayenne, Bluebell Trixie, Catarac Seville, and Tarquin Jonas Parquet often do complain about being teases and their Burberry scarves pinched...

Actually Im going to disappoint you now and tell you I detest shopping of all kinds apart from Gadgets.. David doesnt like taking me into any of those shops now, He had palipitations when we had to take a Sub-woofer speaker back to the shop for repair - he was petrified of what I was going to try and buy next...

i dont know what the problem is.me and the wife put the awning up together with no problem at all because we both know what we are doing and we can be set up within an hour on arriving on site.the trick for us is colour code the poles with different colour insulation tape and of course years of practice.....lol

LMAO!!! No... however I am considering the move, since I feel they will be more sympathetic to my plight and inner turmoil. also my 4 Children, Mercedes Latoyah, Porche Chayenne, Tinkerbella Foxie Bella Fonte Aururah, and Tarquin Jonas Alberto Balsam will be greatful to be amongst fellow pals and be a lot closer to their beloved Burberry shop....

Ok Ok! i'll come clean, I am a rare breed of female who hates most forms of shopping apaprt from Gadgets... David was visibly scared at what I would attempt to buy when we had to take a Sub Woofer speaker back to Seven Oaks sound & vision for repair...

The mould was well and truly broken when you were born.
