Some time ago I read on this site of members experiencing problems with their dogs being travel sick when taking them on holiday, or even shorter journeys.

Today it was necessary for me to visit our vet and I came across a brochure giving the following website which might prove helpful.

www.dog-car-sickness.co.uk

Apparently a Vet can now prescribe medication which does not make them drowsy. A visit to the site may be helpful.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ann, I have been lucky in that respect with my dogs over the years, i find that takeing it or them out in the car, with a board onthe back seat, a few times got them used to traveling.

Hi Alan

We don't have a problem with our dogs. However, I read some time back that a forum member was asking for assistance in this particular field. I thought perhaps it might prove helpful.

Glad to hear you don't have problems with your pets.

Ann, thanks for this. I did post about my dog's travel sickness as did others. I will have a look at it. She is very happy at the nearby kennels when we go away and greets them with huge enthusiasm and pulls on her lead to go with the kennel hand! She is getting a bit elderly now, (the dog not the kennel hand) so I doubt we will start taking her away but the info will be useful if a car journey is essential.

thanks again

Hi Ann,

I posted the following post a couple of months ago:

"Max became part of our family late last year after spotting him in an animal rescue centre. A wonderful placid 2 year old dog who has brought much joy to our lives already.

The only trouble is that he suffers from car sickness. He is fine if we are doing motorway journeys at a constant speed and on the straight but on the 'normal' roads he tends to share the contents of his stomach with us. Knowing how awful car sickness can be we are keen to seek a solution to this problem."

After a number of responses I visited our vet and he prescribed some new tablets which are now on the market. The tablets are called 'Cerenia - Maropitant' and are for the prevention of vomitting induced by motion sickness. The tablets certainly are not cheap and cost almost
