Dogs must be toileted off site -- information please

Can anyone help with this one please. I have been looking at some brochures of campsites to visit this summer and on some of them it says dogs are welcome at £2 a night each but must be toileted off site. I understand that dogs shouldn't use the pitches as a toilet but if you wake up in the morning and have to walk all the way off site to then get your dog to go to the toilet how can you make your dog wait? Because the dog isn't going to know is he? Also why are campsites charging £2 a night each for dogs if they get nothing not even a dog walk area? Anyone else had a problem like this please?

Not seen this condition imposed on UK campsites but have seen it in Europe when looking at sites for next month. I voted with my euros and booked elsewhere.

We have two dogs and vote with our feet - we don't go to sites which charge for dogs. The caravan club (and caravan & camping club) sites are brilliant, usually have lovely dog walks on site, as well as local walk maps. Very dog friendly (bowls of water put out, plenty of dog bins).

Hi Mandy

You can train a dog to toilet on command - I have done that with mine.

However, you can't stop a dog from going to the toilet en route to where ever they are supposed to officially go (offsite or dog walk). I wonder what would happen if the warden or someone else witnessed that? Even if you picked up after your dog. How serious a crime is this? Could you be thrown off site?

I do pay the extra (within reason) for my dogs.
