Dogs on Tour

Does anyone house their dogs overnight in the awning??

We don't usually have a problem with dogs sleeping arrangements, but the wife has 'fostered' a dog, along with our exisiting dog space is limited in the van especially with the kids wanting a bed too!!

She's thinking of a duvet for them to snuggle up on and a blanket over their crates to keep the drafts out - she did say about the kids sleeping in a tent in the awning and the dogs taking the double at the front........ my answer is unpublishable!!!!

Our old boy sleeps in the back of the car,has done ever since we got him,uses his plastic bed from home,and blanket top and bottom,

Ours sleep in the van, but we have one of these raised dog beds for them to sleep on to keep them off the cold floor.
I have put four of the suckers that go on the end of the awning poles to help spread the weight on the annex floor ......
Providing you can get the crate just off the floor by a few inches, so that it not pulling the cold up into the base, they will be alright

It will probably depend on your dogs. We put ours in the awning and they went crazy whenever they heard people walking by. In the van they seem content that we're there with them, but outside in the awning they go in to dog protection crazy mode.
Ours also sleep in the car sometimes, our dogs believe they own the car

anyone who is brave enough to argue the point with them, just try coming near our cars

We had a fitted cover for the top of our last tow car, silver reflective top and white sides that cover the windows with white mesh vents so that the dogs get air in. The cover keeps the car cool so the dogs do not cook, a dog sleeping in a car on a hot sunny morning doesn't go down very well. For our dogs the cover also cut out their view of any passing camp site dog mass murderers that need a severe warning off

Our two sleep in the caravan front end on the seats, lazy devils.
They will sleep in the awning but do bark at every little sound they hear. Not good for us or our neighbours. There's a lot of wild animals out there eg rabbits foxes etc which can spook / disturb the dogs.
The back of the car is their domain. An old duvet as a bed keeps them snug and warm, roof open ajar ,they will sleep soundly.
We did cover all our sets with homemade seat covers. to protect the originals. The original carpets are in the loft . I made up new carpets from reel ends for next to nothing.
Will this additional pooch be at Poston Mill?

One goes under our bed until we nod orf and then............................. The puppy goes under the side bunk and doesn't join us until about half six in the morning.

Ours goes in the awning in a "canvas" walled dog crate that she can't see out of. Not taken her in the winter yet but plan to put a camping mat under the crate to insulate the bottom and put a coat on the dog. Nice thick dog bed inside the crate and she should be OK. If the weather was really bad she would go in her crate in the car. She is not allowed in the van ever.

Ours are like Dusty Dog they are very protective in the car at night or in the awning. So they sleep up front where the seats have fitted mattress covers and tight cotton throws. The OEM carpets have never been in the van and we use Ikea washable a on the floor. Adjacent picture shows them at a rare quiet moment!

Our dogs have 'caravan behaviour'

Our dogs are brother and sister, they are a dynamic together tag team pairing and we could never exclude them from the caravan. They know when the caravan is being readied, they have their front window seat and blanket, they love too watch all that passes.
At home they know the rules of the house and never go near the stairs or bedrooms.
When in the van if we forget to hitch the sliding bedroom door hook, without waking us they can open the door without waking us and sneak on to the bed and we've never been woken by them. They know its wrong and slink off to their bed when they realise we've woken in the morning, the looks of innoncence is hilarious when they've been caught out.

Hi Dusty

The additional pooch will be making his maiden voyage with us next weekend, I'm hoping he'll settle in the crate outside, have been shopping and got a duvet to put the crate on so he doesn't get any drafts, he's a very sensitive boy!! His name is Augus by the way and is very sensitive that he's british with a scottish name, hangs his head in shame ;o(
