We hve a little whippet and take her with us when we go in the van. What gets me is the charge some sites put on for a dog, some can be as high as £3 per night.
Dont get me wrong i dont mind paying a fair amount if the site owners have made some provision for dogs. An area set aside as a walking area and seperate bins for dog waste, but some sites have nothing. Ok , if a dog does its business and the owner cant be bothered to pick it up, tell him to get off the site . But why should we pay when there are no facilities.!!!

This topic comes up very regularly.
The reason for sites charging is simply because they can.
Another reason is to deter dog owners from using their sites.
However, at the current time, CC an C&CC sites do not charge, and some commercial sites do not charge either(but not many)

I have 2 dogs and wont go on a site if they charge us for them. We stick to Cls or club sites. With 2 dogs its like paying for a extra person.

I am on a CL site now and they charge £1 per dog which is not too bad as there is an area to walk the mut.

I took one of our little dogs for a walk at the C&CC site at ******** this afternoon. As you go onto the dog walk there is the customary dogdump bin and underneath it, steaming fresh, was toids the size of a baby's arm. I told the warden and he said he could guess whose dog it was, as I could, because apart from our two small ones the only other dogs on site was an Afghan hound.
Later the warden came to our van and thanked me for pointing it out and he explained that he'd cleared it up. The point is why should he have to clean it up because of morons who think by having a dog dumping all over the place isn't their responsibility.
This is the answer to Graham Derby's post, they simply charge high fee's because they want to deter dogs because of the idiots we have amongst us. To see the owners of this Afghan they look normal respectable people but the warden did say that they had already peed him off but didn't elaborate.

Sorry I haven't replied before Kev because we've only just got home and I didn't have a signal on our last site at Boston.
This happened on the Saurday and we left on the Sunday. The chap was still there and to my knowledge he wasn't spoken to about the incident.

I think a point to look at here is the length of an Afghans back ,now the point here is do we have doggy bags big enough to cater for the log the Afghan is going to deposit on the floor .

Maybe and just maybe in the future forum like this one will allow us to post the dog type and owners caravan ,and car details.

I'd love these offenders to be embarrassed.

The wardens could also play " Return to Sender" with poo package tied to their caravan.

It was a motorhome DD and in hindsight I should have collected the dumps and deposited them by the door of their motorhome. Think of their embarrassment on finding it when they returned but not realising who, out of the many people on site, knew about their anti-social behaviour

Can a non dog owner join in???
I see no problems with dogs on sites as long as they and their owners are restricted to an entirely separate fenced off area. I really don't like the thought of parking my van on a pitch just vacated by campers with 1,2, or even 3 dogs. I always hear about 'responsible' dog owners but as I write this, there is a dog peeing just outside it's owners van! I can report this of course, but why should I have to with all the accompanying unpleasantness? Yesterday, another owner took his dog across to the water point and let it poo there. Yes, he collected it, but what about the residue, the smell etc?

I agree it would be a good idea to segregate dog owners and indeed some sites do. Recently i was at a Large site in North Somercoates and they ask if you have dog ,there are pitches with a dog walk directly at the bach of the vans, well done them for logic thinking. It should not be too hard for other sites to follow this lead.

We have three small dogs from working stock, they are incredibly active and they have never been walked on a camp site facilities as they RUN, they do not walk. We always take them off of site. And they NEVER have fouled on their pitch or any one elses as they are either in our car or caravan and not in the Awning.
We no longer have children caravanning with us and we don't entertain the rest of the site with our choice of music, viewing or loud bitching kids. Now we have ur littl dog family and they are far less nuisance than quite a lot of caravanners and their sprogs. I'm also not interested too hear if a fellow caravanner has remembered his bait and flask and especially not a 6.15am with his car engine running and Sarah Kennedy twittering on his radio nor am I too enamored by shaven legged cyclists waking half the site as they chatter leaving for there morning 40k run

can't these people just 'zip it' ?

I think trying to stop a dog urinating near a pitch, or reporting an owner for allowing a dog to urinate near a pitch is over the top.

But, why should I have to put up with dogs peeing near my pitch even? It still stinks! Dog owners may be immune to the smell, but the rest of us are not. EVERYONE says they are 'responsible' owners who 'NEVER' let their dogs poo and pee on site. So just who are those we all see turning a blind eye to their dogs' toilet?
We all need to be tolerant of the behaviour of others. I am all for dog lovers taking their pets camping but let's segregate them.

I am fortunate that only once has one of my dogs messed near a pitch and that was a few years ago in the Lake District. Unfortunately, the dog was quite ill. However, we picked it up the best we could and my husband fetched several buckets of water to flush it away.

I still can't see a problem with allowing dogs to have the odd wee near a pitch now and again. Obviously, if the pitch is like a bowling green or has beautifully maintained plants around it, then that's different.

What a nasty idea, put all the dogs together and then everyone will disturbed for miles when they all start chatting. Should we segregate the old grumps, the noisy telly addicts, the families with the annoying loud kids. Go to a dog free site if you don't like them or an adult only site.We choose sites where we can access open country side for our dogs.
I don't believe that anyone can smell where a dog has urinated at 5 paces and any more than some caravanners may not smell to nice themselves if you were to get close enough to them. If some fool lets his dog pee on your pitch or up against your awning then you have every right to complain. An odd piddle in a hedge is just not a problem any more than foxes or any other wild life that lives on sites doing it there

Do you know, I don't think I've ever smelt dog wee outdoors. Maybe he's getting it mixed up with foxes, they leave a very pungent scent.

I've seen a dog which was not on a lead piddle up somebody's aquaroll
smiley-surprised.gif

No matter which site we go to and no matter what the site rules governing dogs and their owners are there is always somebody who believes that the rules don't apply to them.
I've never been to a site yet where I haven't seen somebody's dog wandering along off the lead even though there are signs everywhere which clearly state 'Dogs Must Be Kept On Leads At All Times'.
What is it with these dog owners?
