Yes, well said, Alan. At last we're getting back to the subject of the thread instead of getting involved in who created the universe or discussing an apparent decline in morals in our society.

Oh ye of little faith.

The original posting was made before anything went to press, and until the post mortem and investigation is complete, there will be limited details available. However as my driver was given the details by an eye-witness prior to anything in the press, and the eye-witness has no connection with the individual or business concerned, I was happy to make my posting.

So sorry Gumbo, there is truth in the story, you may have to take your P.C/bleeding heart liberal case elsewhere.

The only thing that I find faintly puzzling about this sorry tale is the use of a pickaxe to 'open' the cylinder.

Surely wielding the pick (and you'd have to wallop the cylinder with considerable force to drive it through the steel) was a lot of unnecessary effort?

Why not just open the valve?

That would require some measure of intelligence, surely.

And thats where the discussion falls flat.

now if it were benefit claims...........

Perhaps he was just using the tool of his trade, the only one he need to dig up driveways??

Or perhaps he had not yet been trained to do such technical work as turn on a tap??

Before the comments come in,,I know,a Mod having a non PC word to say,,,,,,,,I wait for the thunderbolt to strike,

Damian, If you don't know how to control yourself why would you think someone else should ???. What I find a little difficult is for a forum that would kill stone dead any comment about travellers now encourages it through their moderator. You really should consider your position you are not a fit person for the job. Angus I don't have a bleeding heart, nor am I PC. I just tend to have a sense of knowing what's right and what's wrong, something you don't. I read the newspaper article no mention of a pickaxe.

Gumbo, please, climb down from your horse.

It is true that keeping on about any section of the population in a derogatory way is discouraged, however, when a single individual, who just happens to be one of the so called "minority" groups does something as patently stupid as this one did, then he is open to comments.

If as it seems he was plainly mentally inadequate he has no one but himself to blame, or maybe some "claim to gain" lawyer will sue Calor for having the temerity to put gas in a gas cylinder and not putting a warning not to open with a pickaxe or whatever other implement he used on the label.

Your reply just upholds anything I said previous. The danger here is you are working on hear say, and you are willing to use your position as a moderator to perpetuate this myth !!!!

That was my point. Any self respecting traveller would know you can't weigh in Calor Gas Bottles, they are worthless for Scrap.

ps I don't have a high horse, in fact I don't even have a little horse. I do have a sense of fair play though, something clearly lacking in this thread.

During World War Two every dead Kraut or *** was good news. I'm PC so would not use those phrases today, but I can't change history, my apologies now if repeating historic phrases offends anyone.

When the Falklands were invaded did we care less about the sinking of the Belgrano? NO!

And so to the case in question. Divine retribution rules here. Assuming of course this idiot half inched the cylinder from someones caravan then he deserved his fate. Do I fell sorry for him, NO.

Chers

Ah, quick update to those interested.

Rather than pierce the side of the gas canister, our travelling mastermind used his implement to knock off the `head` of the container.

Only a detail, same result, but I know we have some pedants in our midst.
