Dometic fridge - does the ignitor need button cell batteries?

Hey all,

My fridge ignitor has never pushed in properly (bought caravan recently). I expect a nice tactical click and then hear the ignitor going at the back of the fridge. This thing is rigid. Doesnt move. Taking the top cover of the fridge off and releasing the ignitor knob I can see the thing is empty with a spring at the bottom of the barrel. Assuming here it wants some button cells in it to make it move/click/ignite?

Don’t forget to also hold in the thermostat knob and hold it and the ignition knob for at least 30 seconds before release. If all is well it should run on gas. Some Dometic fridges are also fitted with a galvanometer which tells you when ignition has been achieved

Our Dometic has a new battery and you can hear it sparking but it just won’t fire up - the service guy tried and failed to light it so it’ll need some intervention but we always run on EHU so not a pressing issue.

We had that issue, the burner needed a good clean which our service guy did. They need regular use to stay in working order, we usually light it once a month, just for half an hour or so.

Yeah, the service guy did what he could but said it was beyond a simple intervention so would need a specialist.

We’re leaving with the van next weekend so I gave it all a once over, checking everything worked. I thought I’d have another go with the fridge - I took the outside panels off, gave it all a good huffing and then tried to light it. For the first time since we’ve had it it fired up! No idea how well it was lit but it was making lit noises and heat came from the flue. We’ll still use EHU but it’s nice to have a backup.
