Dometic RM4230 Fridge

I have a Dometic RM4230 Fridge.

Having used it on the electrical mains supply at the beginning of May it is now not working on that power source. It still works perfectly well on Gas.

I have checked the fuses and they are intact. The mains indicator light comes on when using the mains supply but the fridge doesn't get cold. I am now of the opinion that perhaps the thermostat is faulty. Has anyone else experienced this problem and how did you reslove it (get the repair done)?

my other half told me the fridge wasn't working on 240v. when i checked she had left the mains control set on 0 from when we used it on gas ...scratched head for a bit on that one

The green light only indicates that mains is present at t he connection, it does not indicate that the element is actually working.

The only way of testing the element is to measure the resistance , it should be around 470ohms.

Depending on how much room there is to access the back of the fridge it may be possible to replace the element without having to remove the fridge, however if the fridge has to be removed, that means breaking the gas supply union, which requires a "competent" person to do it,working to the gas regulations and test the system after refitting.

Ken and Damian many Thanks.

Your diagnosis was spot on.

Took it to my local caravan repair centre in Hertfordshire (MG Caravans) and they replaced the element and gave the fridge a service at same time as had to remove the fridge to do the job.

All done and back with me within 3hours.Problem solved
