Hi

I am in need of urgent asvice my Bailey Caravan has a dometic fridge fitted suddenly stopped working

It does not work on 12v/ electric or gas.

when you turn onto gas the amber light comes on but nothing else happens

Turn onto electric the green light was coming on but nothing happened it now no longer comes on but the fridge light is on

I am wondering if it could be the Pcb unit has gone faulty

Any advice would be helpful

checked all fuses all ok

Whilst not familiar with this machine, the first question that springs to mind is whether it has spark ignition. If so and the 12V is not working then it will not be able to light on gas. Is there not some failsafe that needs you to hold a button pressed until the flame failure device has kicked in?

The fridge only works on 12V when connected to a towcar and the engine is running. On site it runs on mains or gas only.

The fridge light is often dual powered - from 12V from the PSU/charger even if the caravan master switch is off, and from the battery if the master is on but mains is off.

The fact that 12V, gas, and mains all achieve cooling by different methods suggests more investigation needed.

Sorry Woodentop,

The cooling process is driven by a heat source, which has to be applied to a particular area of the refrigerant system. All three power sources are used to produce heat in the same area, so the fact that none of the power sources seems to work suggests the coolant systems its self may be at fault.

First of all, the interior fridge light has nothing whatsoever to do with the working of the fridge.
The supply for that light is from the leisure battery.

Contrary to the last post by Prof, the fact that none of the heating sources works is not down to the refrigerant used, it is down to a fault with the PCB which controls which fuel source is used.

Due to the expense of a new PCB it is sensible to get the fault confirmed by a Dometic trained engineer.

One important thing to know...........how old is the fridge?

Thank you Damian, and Sorry Woodentop,

I had forgotten to consider the most modern approach to fridges with their all singing and dancing control systems, Which also means that Woodentops answer is still a valid suggestion.
