Dometic RMD 8551 Fridge/Freezer

During the hot weather that we've had recently in France our fridge freezer has worked very well. However, a large amount of water accumulates under the salad tray. This water comes from the shallow channel under the cooling fins at the top of the fridge compartment.. This fills up with water which has nowhere to escape other than overflowing. The channel has a small indentation in it which looks as though it could have been a drain hole but this has never been drilled out.

We've tried turning the fridge temperature up and down but to no effect. Has anyone got any suggestions on how to cure this?

Wild suggestion for you Paul, are you sure you are closing the door properly?
I had a similar problem with dripping water in the fridge and things getting wet, and with the folk on here it was suggested that i put further pressure on the door when closed so I now push against the door with my knee, and to date it has cured my problem.

The whole purpose of the channel is to drain the water. In a typical domestic fridge it drains onto a dish above the compressor where (hopefully) the heat from the compressor evaporates it before it overflows onto the floor.

With an absorption caravan fridge there will normally be a drain pipe to the exterior.

Are you really sure that your channel doesn't drain anywhere?....or is it just blocked with something?

No, it definately doesn't drain anywhere. I thought there should be a hole in the channel but there isn't and it's not blocked

Hi, an alarm sounds if the door isn't closed properly but I'll try pushing it a bit more. Thanks for your suggestion.
