dordogne campsites near Sarlat

Looking to go to Dordogne 10 Aug, never been to region before, family with 2 children (12 and 10) like to cycle, fancy doing some canoeing as well, looking at aSarlat area. any suggestions welcome

Have a look at Domaine de Soleil Plage super site, big pool plenty for kids to do onsite and is also a riverside situation with organised canooing. About 15-20 mins from Sarlat - superb old town especially on market day and within easy reach of Domme and Beynac.

We (Family with 2 Children Boy age 9 and Girl age 5) have stayed at La Palombiere that is about 5 miles from Sarlat on 2 occassions (2007 and 2009). We had an excellent time on this well maintained campsite with great facilities set in the most attractive of locations. The pool complex is great, canoeing excursions are organised from site and the nightly entertainment is good. The on site restaurant serves excellent food at a very reasonable price. The site is within easy driving distance of all the major Dordogne attractions. Until the Economic downturn we use to have 2 holidays (2 and a half weeks each in France). We have no limited this to 1 per year and wishing to try new places we shall not be going for a while there which is a great shame. Maybe next year we can start having 2 holidays again......

Soleil Plage is a lovely site, I agree, but is expensive, and books up quickly. Right next door is La Bouysse, which has the same access to the Dordogne, at a lovely spot on the river, a good pool, etc., and is a lot cheaper. The advantage of these sites, over some others, is that they are tucked away on a back road, away from a lot of the traffic in that area. You can do canoeing from the site - they have their own canoes at the river bank. There's a nice 'fairy-tale' castle within walking distance through the woods - the Chateau du Montfort, which can also be seen from the river.
However, there are lots of absolutely first class sites in the Dordogne area - and I'm sure you'd be happy on almost any of them.

We stayed at Soleil Plage years ago with our 3.Absolutely lovely site in a lovely area.If you canoe then insist on at least the kids wearing and fixing properly the life jackets. We had a near disaster but our youngest was saved by the lifejacket when we were not warned of a submerged branch.
Great area.Highly recommended.
