I have tried to drain this tank by opening the drain valve and taps without success, even after traveling. Air lock perhaps? Any tips to drain for winterising please.

Caravan is a 2001 Bailey Pageant Imperial. Its in storage so I can,t establish make of tank at present but it has a yellow floor switch which when vertical is in drain position

The heater you describe is one I am not familiar with so I cannot offer concise advice. All I can say is that draining is essential for winter storage.
If you contact your Bailey Dealer they should be able to identify the model and obtain a set of instructions.
Other wide - hopefully some of the other experienced caravanner's will be able to offer some advice

Jim, are you sure it is not drained. On my Bailey I just open the drain valve as you described and open one of the hot taps and the water drains from the tank. Maybee the drain valve is faulty. You could try and disconnect one of the pipes near the valve to see if any water is present.

Hi Jim.
I would suggest that the heater you have is a Truma The Yellow lever you describe is indeed the drain valve. and it allows the water to drain through the floor via a clear plastic tube.
However in order for the water to be relieced you have to open the HOT tap to allow air to enter the tank..

Apparently these tanks have a non-return v/v fitted on the filling side to prevent water flowing back in to the aquaroll. I wonder, just wonder, could it have been fitted on the wrong pipe?

You may have the same problem as I had when I first had my van, I tried to empty the tank but had no luck, mine is the same as yours with the yellow leaver when it is in the up possition it is open and should drain.
What I found to be the problem was a red bung (plug) in the outlet tube underneath the caravan which stopped the water coming out, have a look under the van near to where the hot water tank is and you will see the tube there.
On my van I have two outlet tubes one for the hot water tank and one for the cold water system that can be drained as well both had the red bungs in them.
Whatever you do don't loose the bungs, the cold water system one needs to go back in before you refill the system.
I think they are placed in the outlet tubes at time of manufacture and should be taken out by the caravan retailer prior to selling.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions.I have had this caravan from new and its worked fine up until now by opening the valve and the hot taps.I will disconnect a pipe as suggested by graeme but the tank was full and I was using hot water until leaving site when it failed to drain.Unfortunately the instructions don,t cover failing to drain so its looking like a faulty component or a stubborn air lock.I tried to drain it also by opening the valve with the pump operating and water flowing from the taps but again no joy.

I've got the same truma heater which would not drain last year due to a blocked pipe
I managed to clear it by doing the following :- 1. disconnect the pump and turn off the electrics (12v) 2. open drain valve 3. close all taps 4. diconnect shower head from its pipe in the bathroom. 5. open hot tap to shower 6. blow down the pipe to pressureise the system in reverse.
it worked for me,
