John always says "Typical! look at them..ahh yes lets get out before the caravan!" when people pull out in front of us from a junction.

He is also going through a phase where he is waving at fellow caravvaners and maintains nobody has waved back! I think he is being a `chicken`(hate that phrase though) and is waving too late so he will never know if they have waved back!! LOL
Caroline,

Your John waving at fellow caravanners reminds me of my youth in the 80's driving around in an MG Midget where we all waved at fellow drivers of the same marque,

best regards, Martin

PS. Lets hope this does not start a new craze (lol)

mike, as a volvo driver i would agree with your post. BMW's and all performance cars on the outside, more medicure cars for the middle and us 30's family people who nothing else to do but 'toddle along in no particular hurry as work has been a hussle anyway and so with my caravan in tow i don't care cos i'm on holiday attitude' can stick to the inside!

ahh, happy days!!!

I do find over courteous drivers annoying ie those that cause confusion and delays by giving way even when it's their right of way ( yes I do know there are instances where this makes sense) but many times I stop because there is an obstuction or vehicle parked on my side of the road, such that the approaching traffic has right of way, but having seen me come to an actual stop, the approaching driver, rather than maintain their speed and get out of my way quickly, then slows to a stop to let me pass which actually causes more delay on both sides of the road.

My Uncle used to live in Torquay with all its narrow roads and his policy was to drive straight at the other car regardless of whose right of way it was till one day he returned to the hotel he owned and the couple signing in at reception turned round "Thats him!, Thats the guy who ran us off the road!" they said.

People who overtake on blind corners should have their licences shredded.

Excessively slow divers or vehicles that do not pull over when they can to allow the queue behind them to pass, whenever such a driver does pull over I always make a point of a freindly wave as I pass.

Garfield I agree. The thing with courteous drivers is that while they may be being courteous to one other driver (such as by letting them out) they fail to see that often in doing so they are actually being discourteous to other drivers such as those behind them. My policy is that I err in favour of those with right of way, ie I don't delay those behind me by stopping to let other vehicles out of side roads or to change lane etc. Some on here have condemned me as being self centered for this, but I dare you to actually stop for a moment and think about it!

If I only remember 1 x thing from when I learnt to drive, it was "If you cause any other road user to brake, swerve, or speed up to avoid you" You have Just Done It Wrong !

My pet hate - the fact that most peoples indicators seem to be broken (particularly on Motorways)- it really doesn't take much effort to just flick that little lever - saves me having to resort to my crystal ball or powers of telepathy.

I drive 30,000 miles a year and have seen my fair share of idiots over the last 30 years, and yes I admit to breaking speed limits and cursing slow drivers, however it is usually when you are on A road and they want to pootle along at 40 - I am tolerant of HGV's and people towing they have no choice with regards to speed.

Tolerance Tolerance Tolerance - unless they are like the ****head that 'undertook' me on a roundabout this week, then got stuck behind two other cars, and then pulled out in front of me when I went to overtake all three without looking in his mirror and causing me to slam on my brakes - Must admit maybe i need to practise as I preach !

It is getting worse out there - its the look after No.1 culture

My pet hate is with people who don't know how, and when, to use indicators properly.

I drive a van for a living, and I have lost count of the people I have driven behind who will enter a roundabout indicating right, so that you assume they are going right around the roundabout, and then when they get to the exit before they want to leave, they will indicate left and come off, when they really should not have indicated at all to enter the roundabout, because they are going straight on, and should just indicate left when they get to their exit. I hope this makes sense, it is a bit difficult to explain, but it is infuriating.

I have seen this done by so called professional drivers, i.e. taxi drivers, van drivers, even a bus driver on one occasion. It is very confusing, and dangerous, especially when they are in the wrong position on the roundabout, and cut you up when you are in the right lane.
