Ducato speedometer

Have 2001 Ducato 2.8 jtd and the mileometer has gone wrong ,ie it moves about one mile for every ten miles that i do.However the speedometer is ok , no flucuating etc, also the trip is ok.When i spoke to a dealer he replied i might have to replace the whole cluster instead of the unit itself. Any idea's about this or maybe a good thump might make it go.

Sorry, no real idea except maybe get a technciain in that side of the industry to have a look. Fiat dealers will be of the 'replace it anyway, mentality. Try searching for speedometer specialists.

However, look on the bright side, your van is not metaphorically ageing as fast as it really should.

By the way. the mileometer is usually driven by a gear wheel in the side of the gearbox. It could be this has stopped working correctly. Trace the cable and have a look. The speedometer is electronic

Hi Scotch Lad, went to garage today and asked about the connection to gearbox etc,he said that it is only the cable which turns the mileometer and speed' and as the day trip and speedo' are working it is the mileometer which has gone which means whole clock, is he right?.
