Dull plastic

Hi, the front of my 1990 abi is made of plastic, the rest of my van shines very easy with polish but the front dose not, Is there a product out there that will bring the shine back as good as new? normal polish dose make it smoother but only puts a 20% shine on it. There must be a polish or a secret way to get a super shine to it, Thank's, Doug.

We had a 1993 'van until recently, the front of which was very dull. I had tried various polishes which improved it slightly but it still looked dull. I read in PC about a polish called

Cara-avan which I sent for. Unfortunately we changed the van before I used the polish. However, when it arrived I did try a small patch and I was impressed and I think it would have done the job. Go to Google and type in Care-avan and the polish comes up. I think it was about

Plastic is prone to degradation by sun-light, eventually forming a matt (or even chalky) surface that holds onto dirt and won't take a shine.

The way to renovate the surface is to use a polish - like T-Cut - and not a wax. There is a difference between polish and wax - polish means a cutting agent that physically removes micro amounts of the surface, whereas a wax means a surface coating that promotes shine - companies that use the words "wax polish" in a product description are probably as dumb as their products.

Try T-Cut first, each time you use this it will remove the top layer of the plastic - which shouldn't be a problem on a plastic surface.

If you've used T-Cut and not got anywhere, try a more aggressive polish - one that removes more material with each application - look in the car body repair section of a DIY shop for these products.

Once the damaged surface has been removed, protect it with a good quality wax - the pastes have more waxes than the liquid products - and last longer.

Thank's for your replys... ill be trying them all out to find the best one. it is still a very smooth finish but Just dull. 🙂

doug try this!if all else has failed get a cloth with a small amount of petrol. and use the petrol as you would,t,cut small round circles. this was a tip from my now departed mate who used to valet some big fancy motors.try in an area were it wont be seen.it did the trick on my 94 eldiss,left it just like new.

Hi Doug..my '91 Abbey was in exactly the same situation, dull front and back but the sides were OK. I tried several obvious products, polishes, cleaners etc. The only thing that did the job was a tin of Brasso from Tesco at

just another note:

I was just reading the site for this product and I find it a little worrying that the customer feedback reads like a ebay sheet. Lots of great packaging and arrival info but no feedback from caravan customers saying how good it is or giving experience of its use.
