i was there last summer for two weeks in july.

firstly, it'll only take you about 45 minutes from ferry to camp, so there's no need to rush. we arrived at the camp about 10.20 and were allowed to pitch up right away.

the actual touring park is not nearly as good as it appears in the brochure though. i was under the impression that i'd have an 80 sqm pitch to myself with private water and drainage connections, and surrounded by a nice hedge.

the reality was a hedged in patch of worn out grass with room for six caravans (just) and one water tap among us. we cycled around the camp an eyed up the other pitches incase we'd been diddled, but none are any better.

the roads around the camp aren't really suitable for manouvering a caravan of any real size, although to be fair duinrell do state that access is not easy for large 'vans.

however, once we managed to wangle our way onto our pitch and got settled we actually had a very enjoyable stay. if you have kids of an age where they can venture into the themepark on their own you will not see them all day until the attractions close at 6 or so. not that i have anything against kids, there's just so much to occupy them.

within walking or cycling distance of the camp there is a shopping centre (wassenaar) which is home to a massive supermarket (c1000), which will supply every possible need. slightly further into town you'll find an aldi, and if you're anything like me you must get to doeland (the dutch b&q).

there's also a couple of car garages in wassenaar which specialise in restoring classic cars to showroom condition, worth a look i thought.

the beach is about 5 miles away and is great if its not windy.

weather can be a hit or a miss. we had a fortnight of sunshine and upwards of 30 degrees every day. the three weeks prior to our arrival had p****d rain daily.

i had set off with the intention of seeing some interesting places in holland, but the kids were so happy on the camp that we only ventured out once to amsterdam, which was a waste of a day really. amsterdam is just scarborough with porn.

so to cut a long story short, i was a bit dissapointed by the camp initially, but a good time was had by all and we'd gladly go back.

Hi Stephen,

We went to Dunirell in Aug 2007. I agree about the pitches but our pitch was ok, we were not squashed. My 2 children absolutely loved it! They still ask about it now. The theme park is free so you cannot go wrong. Even when we had been on a day out we would come back and take them in for the last hour, the money we saved on trampolines alone was worth it!

If you have bikes you can cycle safely on cycle paths to the beach which is nice and not to far but enough to make it a nice cycle trip out.

I would definately go again if passing that way. You would be hard pushed to find anything more value for money with children in August school hols.

Jill
