I have no connection with Dyson.

Our 9 year old Dyson upright animal stopped dead. About to chuck it when I discovered Dyson do a home visit full refurbishement / repair for £69.00 guaranteed 12 months.

Their engineer came to our home and stripped down the animal. Amongst many items he changed the motor, capacitor , two hoses ,the clutch with two belts, the brush bar, the dual cyclone chamber and the filters.

I think the only original piece is the outer casing!

Talk about a new machine, absolutely fantastic.

Cheers

Motor burnt out on mine. We live out in the country so it had to go back to Dyson - they arranged collection on a Monday morning and said it would take 4 days. On Tuesday we got a call to say it would be delivered back on Wednesday morning if that was convenient. Many bits replaced. An excellent service

I think they're good as well. It's woth noting that the main problem appears to be where the mains lead enters the casing. Our local recycling center usually has a skip full of dysons. I have repaired 3 in the past by getting in with the manager and 'recycling' ones that have been binned just because the owners couldnt be bothered to get them fixed and/or wanted the latest model. We now have one upstairs, one downstairs, one in the garage and one at our son's place.

Hi Dusty

Our Dyson 'broke' and a colleague mentioned that a year previously, he had had an engineer from Dyson out who virtually rebuilt the whole machine for an unbelieviably cheap price. I contacted Dyson and arranged for them to come out and look at our 'broken' machine. I couldn't believe it, he more or less rebuilt it with new parts all for under £40.

Whilst we're on the subject of vacuums, I bought a cylinder vacuum for the van (Argos brand) for £24.99 or thereabouts 1400 watt (but variable under power up to 1400w) and tried it out recently and it's absolutely brilliant. It's bagless and clear plastic so you can see when it needs emptying, perfect for the van and weighs in at 4KG. Picks up dog hairs a treat, not that I allow my dogs in the van, cough cough.......

I'm so sad and need to get out more probably.

Dyson The marketing con of the century! As a window fitter I get to use all makes and models of cleaners. The most popular make by far is Dyson.Almost every one has been absolute rubbish. That is the reason they are so keen to repair them so comprehensibly - otherwise the name would be mud (quite rightly) and sales would plummet.
Try a Miele - you'll have it for years with no need for repairs and great performance too.

I bought a Dyson a few years ago to replace the 20+ year old Electrolux which I gave to my son when he moved out into his own flat. I'd never buy a Dyson again. It has broken 3 drive belts so far and sometimes just stops for no reason at all. The staff at our local tip (sorry, Household Waste and Recycling Centre) told me once the it's the most common make that get left there.
Using the Dyson to clean the car is like wrestling an octopus in a small cupboard. I bought a cheap cylinder cleaner from Sainsburys which does the same job with ease.

I've got one of the little cylinder Dysons and love it (well, as much as you can love a machine that forces you to do the dreaded 'H' word). I'd had an upright Dyson for a few years before, it did a good job (better than any other make of vacuum cleaner I've had), but I found it so heavy and unwieldy - stairs in particular were a nightmare. The cylinder one is so much more manoeuvrable and lightweight, and no working problems after a year (had no problems with the upright one in the 3 or 4 years I had it, either). Emptying it is easy - husband does it!

My son gave me his 6 month old Dyson, said his wife couldn't get on with it..................... No wonder what a load of plastic tack.
It's down the tip (still under warranty) together with a few more, nice colours though!
