Early ferry from Dover

We are going to be getting a 4ish AM ferry out of Dover and I wondered if they let you in to park early, say 10pm the previous night to get some kip on the dock side?

Yes, drive into the port, and right up to the booths checking tickets, and they should let you in, and tell you what 'bay' to park in - each ferry timing has it's own rows of cars waiting to go on. However, it's very noisy on the port and it's not very likely you'll get any sleep with the noise of HGVs moving on and off the ferries. We've found, previously, that P and O often allow you on an earlier ferry, particularly if you're going in low season.

Last time we went on the Dover crossing we were about 2hours early getting there and they would not let us in they directed to a side road on the sea front where you could park up which lots of people had done,we now always go from Portsmouth where you can sleep on the dockside without much noise and they even knock you up in the morning if you oversleep.

It's easier to stop the other side, If you get in early go to check in as we've neaely aleways been put on an earlier ferry with P&O and Sea France with caravan and trailers. They do tend to want a

Have you thought about a CL nearby? Arrive early evening, leave when you like and unlikely to disturb anyone, especially if you're quiet. I know that the CC site, Black Horse Farm just outside Folkestone has a special area for those that have an early morning or late night ferry. Its also good for a longer stay.

Last June the C*w on the desk sent us out of the port. She was trying for employee of the month by trying to get us to put our hands in our pockets to pay for an amended ferry crossing.

Yorkshire born (with a Scottish mother) she had no chance.

It wasn't as if they were busy and we had travelled 300miles.
