eBay question

I am new to eBay selling. We advertised our Isabella porch awning on eBay and had one or two inquiries. It was a fixed sale with no bidding. This morning we get an email advising that the awning has been sold to a buyer that never made any inquiries. We get another email asking for bank details and that is when alarm bells stated ringing. It was supposed to cash on delivery? Now eBay are stating that the buyer collects and we then get paid 24 hours later!

I was not aware of this when we placed the ad so unsure if this is a scam? Even so if the buyer takes away the awning and then decides there is an issue, they get refunded and we are out of pocket. No way am I letting that awning out of sight until the money is in the my hands! Very unsure!

If it’s a fixed price the buyer doesn’t have to make any enquiry. I recently sold roof bars and the money went to ebay. It sat in my ebay account and a few days ago I released it to my bank account and it came through within 24 hours.

Thanks for the update. A few years ago I sold tyres on eBay and it took 14 days for the money to appear in my account. The concern here was that the buyer had taken the tyres, but if they then decided the tyres had issues, they got back their money and we had no tyres.

Sadly I had forgotten about that when I listed the awning. Took me a lot of digging to be able to end the listings. In the past 4 - 5 years I think I have only bought 2 - 3 items on eBay so no point having an account and will close it down.

Are you still in CC if so you could try the Clubs classifieds. I bought my magnum via CC ads and several other items.

The only way to be safe on EBay is to have an account and buyer pays into before collection. Sold awnings etc in the past and no problem of getting scammed , and if buyer needs item sent they pay for delivery and you get a printed label to stick on package,

EV's do not "need" fossil fuels to recharge, they use electricity regardless of how its generated. The mix of fuels used to generate electricity is not dictated by the use of an EV. I could argue that all EV's use renewables, and its all the other purposes we use electricity for that cause the generators to switch on extra generation capacity which might use fossil fuel.

The vast majority of cars (EV and ICE) sold in the UK are imported, so the source country of batteries is no more contentious than all other parts of our cars.

If we consider the total environmental impact of building and running EV's and ICE vehicle across the full lifetime of the vehicles, EVs may have a larger manufacturing impact than ICE, but the running the pollution balance quickly changes, as ICE produce not only tail pipe emissions, but you have the continual destruction of oil reserves, and the cost of finding, extracting, storing, transporting, refining, delivering refined product, the cost of maintaining service stations, and the power they use throughout the lifetime of the vehicle which vastly outstrip the costs of delivering electricity to homes or charge points for EV's.

If you clearly stated cash on collection stick to your guns, do not under any circumstances give your bank details, its there problem not yours.
