eBay question

I am new to eBay selling. We advertised our Isabella porch awning on eBay and had one or two inquiries. It was a fixed sale with no bidding. This morning we get an email advising that the awning has been sold to a buyer that never made any inquiries. We get another email asking for bank details and that is when alarm bells stated ringing. It was supposed to cash on delivery? Now eBay are stating that the buyer collects and we then get paid 24 hours later!

I was not aware of this when we placed the ad so unsure if this is a scam? Even so if the buyer takes away the awning and then decides there is an issue, they get refunded and we are out of pocket. No way am I letting that awning out of sight until the money is in the my hands! Very unsure!

If it’s a fixed price the buyer doesn’t have to make any enquiry. I recently sold roof bars and the money went to ebay. It sat in my ebay account and a few days ago I released it to my bank account and it came through within 24 hours.

Thanks for the update. A few years ago I sold tyres on eBay and it took 14 days for the money to appear in my account. The concern here was that the buyer had taken the tyres, but if they then decided the tyres had issues, they got back their money and we had no tyres.

Sadly I had forgotten about that when I listed the awning. Took me a lot of digging to be able to end the listings. In the past 4 - 5 years I think I have only bought 2 - 3 items on eBay so no point having an account and will close it down.

Are you still in CC if so you could try the Clubs classifieds. I bought my magnum via CC ads and several other items.

The only way to be safe on EBay is to have an account and buyer pays into before collection. Sold awnings etc in the past and no problem of getting scammed , and if buyer needs item sent they pay for delivery and you get a printed label to stick on package,

If you clearly stated cash on collection stick to your guns, do not under any circumstances give your bank details, its there problem not yours.

Why have you quoted one of my posts from another thread in this, when it has nothing to do with it?

I assume your bank details are with eBay UK if so buyer can pay you through them, Buyer would then need to provide you with collection code issued through eBay, which proves buyer collected and inspected item on the day . There is no point where you would need to give them your bank details. Its probably eBay UK who are asking for bank details

I am aware that it is eBay asking for the bank details, but I want cash on collection and not having to wait 10 days for the money to go into the account. Plus he big concern is that the buyer makes a complaint, eBay refund them and the buyer keeps the awning and we are out of pocket.

Another one I use is Facebook marketplace. My daughter uses FB and puts the ads in for me after I’ve sent her all the details.
I did try FB Marketplace, but they wanted to charge me nearly £2 per day unless I had clicked on the wrong ad link as they have something called "boost" and it seemed that I had no option except to agree to it to get the ad up and running. Not sold stuff on there previously so no idea.

My daughter would have told me if such payments were required and she’s never said anything. Wonder if it’s value related.

Ebay do not automatically refund the Buyer. The complaint has to be validated. I always follow the EBay process from beginning to end, and never had any issues.

No idea. I did not mind paying i.e. £20 to run the ad until sold, but £2 per day was not on, but as said I may have been doing something wrong when placing the ad?

Message the buyer explain you want cash on collection, and not to pay through eBay. eBay will still require your bank details otherwise how will they collect their fees.

The initial listing is free I have sold numerous items on FB also currently have my caravan on there.
You get up to 5 locations near you free of any charges, others from afar do look at the ads as well, the boost button gives you an even wider audience and the £2.00 gives you 3 days at a time, this is optional.
Also increments of £3.00, £4.00 & £5.00 gives you even more viewings.

Sorry you have lost me could you clarify ?
I have to guess that by accident you must have copied one of my comments (from an entirely different thread) and included it in your comment number 7 in this thread.

A moderator seems to amended your posting to remove the erroneous pasting.
