EHIC insurance

Someone has just told me that if you happen to be in Europe before the Brexit deadline the the EHIC card will be valid until you return to UK.
This sounds to me a bit like wishful thinking - anyone confirm or otherwise ?

We’ve recently had our cards renewed but is my understanding that until the reciprocal agreements are all signed then the validity ends 31 December 2020. But I haven’t read anything about how it would affect those already abroad in the EU if the reciprocal agreements were not signed.

Found on HMG website. Seems to confirm what Rays contact said. BBC had reports back in 2017 as agreed in talks Davis-Barnier.

We renewed our cards last week and the website indicated that the card may be valid after Brexit happens. At the moment we are not contemplating travelling overseas now or within the next 24 months.
