PLEASE don't forget to check the date on your EHIC. I thought we were 'savvy' but both mine, and OH's expired in September 2013. Good job we weren't taken ill on one of our little jaunts in between as we never checked.
Make sure you use the official website to get your EHIC or renew one. There are sites which will charge you to renew, but this is a scam as cards/renewals are free. Look on line at the NHS website or phone the automated renewal line on 0300 3301350. We found this easier - it took just 3 minutes, but you need your EHIC in front of you.
