EHU kept tripping

Grinlow Buxton CC site runs at 16 amps. On our 8th day there we kept tripping out the EHU RCB. Now we are not greedy and only had the heater on 2000 and the hot water heater full on electric, fridge, charger and tv.

We discovered a small water leak on one of the push fit pipes to the inboard Whale pump.

My dealer fixed this minor leak this week and reckons the water had got into the electric "plug"connection to the water heater. This caused a short or power surge which tripped the EHU but not our own MCB. Strange that but I think the problem is now solved.

Tricky things water and electricity.

Cheers

Alan this is not unusual because if there is a 30 milli amp rcd in the hook up pillar and a 30 milli amp rcd in the caravan any fault current will be detected by the first rcd in line as the current to trip this device has to pass through that way first.

We had exactly the same problem 4 years ago in Ireland.

The problem caused by the waste pipe coming off the sink leaving a pool of water soaking a conector on the fridge.

It was a case of issolating the fridge, pushing the pipe back on, drying the floor & using a hair drier to dry the electrics.
