It would be highly unusual for a person who doesn't own a dog or have any interest in dog agility events and similar to attend one of these events that you have so eloquently described Jim.
Is not at all unusual for an owner of one or indeed several dogs to visit a regular campsite, caravan park or certified site/location however.
The non dog owner can choose wether or not to attend a dog agility event, if they did attend they could hardly complain because the people on the next pitch kept dogs.
If the non dog owner visits a general site or caravan park they often have little choice over whether they have to be next to dog owners, some of who may keep several dogs.
This might be why some sites levy high tarriffs for dogs, to pay for dog walks and perhaps to deter owners of several dogs from using their site.
Most dog owners keep their pets on leads and clean up after them when on general sites but there's always at least one who thinks that the rules apply to everyone but themselves. These selfish individuals cause all dog owners to be tarnished by default unfortunately.

Hi Parksey,
I guess because in almost 2 years that we've only used 2 regular campsites, & both of those were very good to us, that my perspective on this is a bit different. I take the points you make on board.
We use caravanning as a means to persue our real hobby/interest rather than an interest in itself. Having said that, I can understand how people do get hooked - we absolutely love being away in the caravan & we don't know why we didn't get one earlier !!!

Cheers,
Jim

Very nice Sproket. You'd fit in well at any agility show we've been to

Getting back a bit closer to the original topic......EHU charges won't be bothering us this year - all of our 60 or so nights will be off EHU at shows. With a bit of care, it's amazing how long 2 x 95AH batteries can last. Last week we were away for 9 days. We used the water pump as normal, SWMBO & I each having a shower a day, used the lights as & when we needed them - not that much really as it was light well into the evenings, & we used the TV for an hour or so 4 or 5 times. After 6 nights the 1st battery was showing 12.2V, so I swapped over. When we left, the 2nd was still showing 12.4V

Electricity prices are only ever going to go one way and it won't be down but it won't affect our caravanning too much because (as I've often said elsewhere!) we embraced a bit of green technology and now use an 80 watt solar panel. This allows us to use the caravan for indefinite periods on rallies off ehu and minimises the use of 240v electricity when we're on ehu.

My current (no pun intended ) site is £100 per week. Inclusive of EHU 10 amp, a swimming pool . Two dogs are free and the dog walk is miles of forest.
Gagakev summed it up very well indeed. There's plenty of choice for all.
I'm sure people just go to "normal sites" to slag off dog owners
I never have and never will pay for the dogs or EHU if I can avoid it.
I actually dont mind paying a reasonable fee, say £2.00ish and as said I learnt my lesson this time, will find out doggy prices before showing the grandson the site next time . By the way I did'nt buy my van to save on kennel fee's, the dog came two years later!!
I admit I did pay for the EHU six years ago at a site at Aviemore . It was a no choice thing.I didn't know until I got there.

Now then Kev tell me more about these naturist sites. I'll try and persuade SWMBO, in my dreams!

Ok DD you got to keep this to yourself, promise you wont tell any one. so I shall begin, The OH and I went to a site in cornwall and unknown to us they entertained the naturist for a full week, the owner explained that a lot (most) of the folk on site didnt wear any clothes at all, but it was optional. She informed us that they allways put clean towels over the seating in the bar so there would always be clean seating. She informed us of the get togethers during the day that you could join in with, NO not that!! they held raffles, coffee mornings etc etc. Aparently they raise alot of dosh for charities,
SWMBO was smiling at this stage as the owner said,
You would be welcome to return in two weeks time and join in!!!!!!

I relise that we are on the subject of electricity charges here, but, again, up crops the old subject of dogs on sites. 4 dogs in one unit!! As I've said before, it's totally out of control. Sometimes, there are more dogs on site than campers. And, of course it costs site owners to have dogs, Despite owners ALWAYS declaring that it's never their animal which fouls the site, the fact remains that it happens frequently and someone has to clean it up. It costs money to do so. And who pays for the creation of dog walking areas? Paying a realistic fee would hopefully limit the number of dogs, eliminate those who only caravan to save kennel costs, and leave us with those whose animals are kept under proper control.

oldagetraveller you are losing the plot again and the debate.
There is no one on this forum who has posted more about dogs dumping and moronic owners not picking it up than myself. I have two dogs and am particularly sick to the back teeth of walking our dogs while staring at the floor to sidestep dog mess. I resemble a demented crab. But, and it's a big BUT, the dog mess is on the dog walk, NOT ON THE ACTUAL site. I've been caravanning for a fair few years now and I've never seen any mess on any actual site so this beggars the question. What are you doing up on the dog walk if you don't have a dog and dislike them intensely?
Regarding your remark about kennel fees it's laughable. If kennel fees were free I wouldn't put my dogs in there and neither would the vast majority of dog owners.
Once again it makes me seethe with rage thinking of anti-social idiots not bothering to clean up after their dogs but I have to admit to myself that not all of them are club members. We went to Cornwall in May for two weeks. One side of the site was a cycle track and on the other side a footpath along the river. Both had dog mess but most of it was from the locals who would park by the site entrance to walk their dogs. On the cycle track it was worse because of the hoss muck which nobody seems to moan about despite it not being a bridleway. Delamere Forest C&CC site was the same where paths from the site led into the forest which is used by everyone and there are hundreds of sites like this.
Anyway, I digress. I see this thread started off about the cost of electric, followed by dogs and after me posting a GIF complaints about GIFS so I will go and sit in the naughty corner and keep Kev and Gumpy company

I appreciate that they are expensive, if you watch this video you will see how it stays standing in 70mph winds.
So in the morning after a windy night it is still there & not blowing round the camp site.
We also did not want loads of guy ropes to trip over.

What I meant to say was that we looked at others and they were very expensive so in comparison the ones in your link are nearly 50% less which is why they will probably get our custom!

Just a quick one for those of you who are interested.
Meter still had 2 units on, on our arrival so they did'nt reset them back to zero.
Used exactly £5.00 worth for the 4 nights so equal to £1.25 per night.
Fridge, and coolbox (for my beer) on permenantly. Used kettle, TV, hairdryer, hair strighteners, toaster, hoover, Lights, charger and on the last night used a heater in the awning to take the chill out of the air.
So there average of £1.70 for two nights is pure fabrication.

I am afraid that £1.70 is probably lower than average especially if using the electric heater in the caravan! In your case you only had an outside heater on for a few hours, but if the heater on the caravan had been on overnight you would have used a lot more. You probably used approximately 8 - 10n Kwh units of electric per day. Good timing though with zero'ing the card.
