Hi Angus, we have a 2006 Elddis Crusader Aurora and are well pleased with it. Build quality and towing performance are both excellent. Couple of minor warranty issues - rectified by dealer. It beats hands down the previous vans we've owned 2 x Avondale and an Abbey.

Hi Angus

Just bought a 2007 Crusader Super Sirocco and had easter weekend away with it. Found it to be better built than our last Abbey and we have also had Crusaders in the past and find the current vans feel much better built than the previous Elddis of old.

Hi

We are changing our van next year & at the moment its the Crusader Storm that is winning us over. we also like the cyclone but think the island bed has less cupboard space than the storm.

I would also be interested in readers comments re Eldiss as i have heard mixed reports, but you get that with every make.

Our previopus van was a dealer special edition based on the Elddis Avante 505 which we owned for 5 seasons from new (2002). Buld quality was excllent and the van was used every 2nd weeken between March and the end of October during the 5 season including atleast 2 weeks of each year.

No issues encountered other than a faulty battery charger and replacemnet stay for the front locker arm both of shich were replaced without fuss and efficiently by the dealer. The annual service was little more than an equipment check and I wasnt surprised that despite dropping it off at the dealer the week before Christmas that the sold it at the beginning of Feb.

We chose the Elddis having looked at several others as we found them more modern and to have better "quality feel" to fixtures and fittings. Particlulary in comparison to the equivelant Baileys.

We recently took delivery of an Elddis Crusader Superstorm having again looked at several other manufacturers including Fendt, Hobby and the Baily Senator of which we have read great reviews in PC Mag over the past few years. However feelings did not change and in our opinion ( it would seem only our opinion from sales figures!!)the Baily still feels basic in comparison. Several others I have spoken to also feel that the new exterior graphics, particularly on the Pageant, look more like an entry model than mid or top of the range.

We have been away in our van 3 times since taking delivery, including 8 nights over Easter, and have to say our decision to remain with the Brand seems justified. One minor issue is a scratch on a low level door which whilst not visible without close inspection is being replaced by the dealer.

Only niggle so far is that personally I don't like the window binds that pull up the window instead of down - however if this is my only issue I really can't complain.

Happy caravanning what ever you decide.

Hello SPG.

I agree with you when comparing a Bailey to an Eldiss the Eldiss is far more luxurious etc thats what you get for a little extra money. We love our Bailey Senator but i think we will be changing to an Eldiss Storm next year unless the senator 6 is comparable. Re the blinds our Senator was the same so we asked our dealer to turn them round the other way & it did not effect the warrenty. After all the sun sets down not up & so you want to block the sun out if its in your eyes. To this day i cannot understand why all manufactures do this now.

See you

David, thanks - had not thought of asking the dealer to rotate the blinds so will raise the question. The thing that makes it more infuriating is that the front window blinds pull down and all others pull up!!! as you say - Why ?????????????????????

Hi Angus,

Don't worry, you've made an excellent choice. After much deliberation I bought a Superstorm last year, it's an excellent van and well put together. I don't think there is anything on the market to compare.

Happy holidays,

Steve

I think i am getting obsessed as i keep looking at the Eldiss website & just cannot keep my eyes off the Crusader Storm or the Compass Rallye 640. I want one now i think it looks absolutely fab inside & out.

Although our local dealer Black country caravans in cradley heath about 16 miles away says the 2008 model due in July is changing.I hope they dont spoil them

Im going to go to Broad lane caravans at Alcester on Sat as they are Eldiss dealers as well just to be in 1. I think i must be going sad in my old life (45) as we wont be ready to change until next year. Unless Bailey come up to Eldiss which i dont think they will then roll on 2008.

Sorry its not really answering the original question but i just wanted to post how much i am swinging over to eldiss caravans

Happy caravanning

David

Must agree with you David, The Super Storm is certainly the best looking caravan currently on sale ( IMHO ) We bought a new Bessacarr, but if we had a dealer locally we would of probably took a Super Storm.

On our 3rd Elldis now and have been very pleased with the build quality and have had no problems, only complaint would be that they are are the heavy side.

We have a superstorm at present and is great value for money and tows very well although mpg has decreased because the van is heavier.

Interior very good only lacking shelf space for clothes, but have built a unit which has solved the problem.

3 hob burner much better idea.

Thanks for all your responses.

We will take delivery of an Avante 524 in he next couple of weeks, the delay was whilst the dealer brought the van to physically try it down the driveway to see if it will fit.

I have had to go for the Avante because of its width. At 7 feet and half-an-inch it goes where most other vans wont as they are 7ft 2in, 7ft 4in or even 7ft 6in. I know a couple of inches doesn`t seem much, but when at the narrowest point you only have 4 inches leeway in total it makes all the difference in the world.

Anyway, the deed is done.

Dont buy an elddis they just fall apart and the build quality is so bad. If you want a good van you should buy one from abroadthe quality is out standing.

Sorry Jack but have to disagree we are on our third Elddis with an Abbey in between and none of them have fell apart except for some flimsy shelves in the kitchen on the Abbey whitch was fixed with a screw!Obviously you have had a bad experience but that to me does not say the vans are poor. I have also heard bad reports of continental vans as well!

in the process of looking for a used caravan just wondering where to locate the year of the caravan i no some are located on the window but some are coded and i dont no what year the letter stands for as some private sellers weve seen have lied about the year also about the heating system, they advertise blow air heating which have air vents located around the caravan as a central heating system when they actually only have carver heaters could anyone let me no what year this blow air heating system came into caravans thank you!

I hope this is not too late but I certainly would not recommend you you purchase one. I have had endless trouble. Read my post under 'Problem Van@ in General. After sales is rubbish - they simply don't want to know you. Stay clear is my advice.

Having said that whre does one go to find things any different. When I get rid of my load of scrap I simply don't know where I will go. I might just quit altogether! Sorry I'm starting to rant.

Can you elaborate how how your van fell apart. I am having trouble myself and would like to hear from people experiencing similar probs. My kitchen units are coming away from the walls and the ceiling has seperated from the dividing wall of the bathroom.

Everyone has a story of a bad product caravan, car etc and also stories of bad customer service in all industries.

I have never had any problems with Elddis and im on my third, had big problems with another make, but i also know that others rate them very highly.

Down to personal choice and what you are happy with.

We purchased a new Avante 524 in February , and after spending some 30 odd nights in it over the last couple of months I have to say that we are more than happy with it. Its far more comfortable and seems to be substancially better built than our previouse Avondale. The only complaint I have with it is that it does'nt have a directional aeriel fitted and the dealers cant fit a replacement in the overhead locker, other than that its fine.
