We purchased a new Avante 524 in February , and after spending some 30 odd nights in it over the last couple of months I have to say that we are more than happy with it. Its far more comfortable and seems to be substancially better built than our previouse Avondale. The only complaint I have with it is that it does'nt have a directional aeriel fitted and the dealers cant fit a replacement in the overhead locker, other than that its fine.
I had an Elddis Typhoon Ex2000 for 7 years and had no real problems with it. The build quality was good.Unfortunatly as is the case with most manufacturers these days the equivilant van is now too heavy.I went for a dealer special based on the Sterling Europa and although i am pleased with it I feel the build quality in some parts is not as substanial as the Elddis, eg the window catches feel as if they would break off very easily.

I have a 2005 Crusader Storm.

No problems that have needed to be fixed under warranty.

Faults i have rectified myself.

Truma Fixed gas Reg was blocked due to residue from rubber hoses.

Sliding door in bedroom needed adjusting after 1 year.

plastic runner for table cupboard came unstuck, I glued it back on.

Downside

the weight.

the weight.

the weight.

For just over 2 years and 80 Nights away that is pretty good going. so much so im going for the 2008 Van if there is enough changed to warrant the uplift.

With regard to the Cyclone versus Storm debate.

With the storm the bed is 5-6" longer and 2" wider. You have 1 large wardrobe and 3 useful drawers, the cyclone has 2 small wardrobes and 2 very small drawers. The storm has an exterior door to the underbed storage.

The corner dresser in the bedroom, where we have TV DVD player ect, is a lot smaller on the cyclone, so much so I do not believe our TV would fit (its an LCD !!).

But the cyclone bed is easier for 2 people to get in and out of without disturbing each other. Im 6"2 and couldnt live with the cyclone bed and the area to the left handside of the storm bed is ideal for getting dressed, you have just enough room to walk around the cyclone.

The cyclone bed looks better the storm is more practical overall, but the disadvantage of the storm is access if you are incontinent or need the toilet a lot in the night maybe not ideal climbing over or sliding off the bottom waking up the partner.

We bought an Elddis Crusader Typhoon in May 2006 and it has been nothing but a dissappointment - problems with bed slats, doors, bottoms falling out of drawers. Have previously owned Swift and Sterling with no problems whatsoever. Elddis vans have the wow factor to look at but are not so good in use.

Les,

Seeing as you only collected the caravan last week, providing it was properly P.D.I., you should not have had any problems yet.

I hope you don't have any problems but only time will tell.

Les,

As the owner of a 6 month old Swift Conqueror which I have towed over 2000 miles , and used for 9 weeks without a problem , can you please say how your Conqueror "fell apart" ?

we picked the van up at easter and used it a total of 11 times from long weekends to 7 day trips to scotland an down south. we had electic water heater faliure most times, the onbord tank draing back in to the aqua roll, the worktop around the sink de laminating, the awning rail coming away, ofside front side window delaminated, bed slats fell apart, most locker screws fell out of the hinges, door catches not working, paint on the near side changing colour, road lights intermitent 12 volt system intermitent and then the hob blew up ,eventually we got our money back and new we have a new elddis and never again would i have a swift

Les,

As has been said you will find horror stories for all makes of caravans.Just as you would never buy a Swift again we would never buy an Eldis. After 11 months of owning the Eldis our dealer gave us the full price we paid for it in part exchange against a new Bessacar. however we had water ingress in the Bessacar at 7 months. The only caravans we have had no major problems with are 3 Bailey Senators. However we know of someone who got a real Friday Bailey! I have seen a 4 year old Carlight at our dealers with severe water ingress.

Upto now the Conqueror has been superb, but as with your caravan only time will tell.

Dare I say having visited caravan factories and watched them being built I am not surprised we have Friday caravans.

Hello SPG.

I agree with you when comparing a Bailey to an Eldiss the Eldiss is far more luxurious etc thats what you get for a little extra money. We love our Bailey Senator but i think we will be changing to an Eldiss Storm next year unless the senator 6 is comparable. Re the blinds our Senator was the same so we asked our dealer to turn them round the other way & it did not effect the warrenty. After all the sun sets down not up & so you want to block the sun out if its in your eyes. To this day i cannot understand why all manufactures do this now.

See you
sorry couldn't say we were in uk , it would not let me.

re the blinds, we have just sold our motorhome after having one for 4 years, and we couldn't understand when looking at caravans why they went down instead of up, silly idea, if you are getting dressed in the morning you don't want them to see your body, so tuggers really are s t r a n g e people, sun in your eyes indeed, lol

Our Elddis Avante Firestorm 630fb is 4 years old now and we have never had a problem. Build is the same as the much dearer Swift we had before.

4 years ago I hired an Elddis Avante 505 . Two weeks use revealed no problems and it was comfortable. At the time the Caravan press gave better reliability points to Bailey and Swift. Do Elddis give a 6 year water ingress guarantee like Bailey and Swift?

Cheers

Alan
