HI

I have an Elddis Avante 550 2015 model and the front locker has snapped off across the front just under the hinge, most probably due to the pneumatic dampers putting too much strain on the door just under the hinge when in open position, Elddis have declined the claim once but I am appealing. Anyone else had a similar issue with the locker or claiming against Elddis in general?

Kind regards

Craig

I bought my 2014 xplore 530 from a dealer, then contacted elddis to transfer the remaining warranty over, sent all paperwork in,they then declined to honour warranty due to the dealer(non ncc aproved)stamping the service book prior to its second year service.I offered to take it anywhere they required to have its second year service, but theyve flattly refused.Rant over,so i think you will have a hard job getting them to change their minds, sorry.

Just got this of the Elddis website

"Three Year Manufacturer's Warranty
Year 1 Warranty - Covers all original components, including permanently fitted equipment forming part of the original product specification.
Year 2 and 3 Warranty - Covers all original components, including permanently fitted equipment forming part of the original product specification, with the exception of the following items:

Microwaves
Tyres
Batteries
Windows and glass
Deterioration of exterior paint work
Soft furnishings, carpets and floor coverings
Entertainment equipment
Fluorescent tubes, bulbs, LEDs and fuses
Plastic and GRP exterior panels
Plastic products including A-frame covers, wheel spats and shower trays
Minor adjustment of blinds, hinges, catches, stays and doors"

Just been looking at this I would be getting onto them and fighting it but they could just put it down to wear and tear .

Just had a quote of £1100 for a new locker door, ridiculous.
I will be taking it further as the warranty is a joke, it's basicly a 1 year warranty as nothing else apart for the chassis and the fridge is covered.

As a second string to your bow, I suggest you also look up the Consumer Rights Act which came into force in October 2015. This is your statutory contractual rights with the seller ( not the manufacturer) basically A locker door should last more than 2 years with out fail, so it may not be of adequate quality for its intended purpose.

Had an updated quote of £551 Inc VAT, still way to much for a substandard part.
Is it reasonable to expect a front locker to last longer than 2 years? I think so, lets see what they have to say.

Your contract is with the dealer and not Eldiss. The guarantee gives you additional rights but does not affect your rights against the dealer under The Sale of Goods Act. As the Prof says a front locker hinge should last more than two years and unless there is evidence of some cause other than poor workmanship then claim against the dealer.t The Act basically gives you six years to claim if the goods are faulty (in Scotland five years). Go back to the dealer and tell them you wish to claim under the terms of the act and if they do not agree to repair then you will be raising a small claims action for recovery plus interest.
If you are in either club they have a help line and if not draft letters and more information can be found on the Citizens Advice website. They have a help line which might help but some people seem happier than others with this.

Ray has the wrong Act. Because you say you purchased in October 2015 it is covered by the stronger Consumer Rights Act.

It's there foe your protection so use it if you can.

I have a 2012 Elddis Buccaneer , it has had 2 new front locker doors in its life 2014 and 2016 it is a common fault they crack just underneath the hinge. The warranty is 10 years but only water ingress, you get a year on everything else. I did have a split in the abs rear panel 3 years ago and they said if they didnt put it down as water ingress it wouldnt be covered.
I would argue it is a common fault ?

Good news.
Will the dealer fit it?
It seems to he a design problem that may recurr. I wonder if Elddis have made any later modifications like stiffener plates in the hinge areas?

Glad to her you have got the result you wanted. I suspect you might have to wait a bit though for the parts.
The Prof is right though with the correct act as it was bought just after the law changed.

Not sure but ill add some carbon fibre strips to the back if they haven't should be enough to prevent a repeat.
I personally wouldn't waste your time as it has an inherent weakness as the 2 panels are heat welded together and the heat weld is just below the hinge. Be careful when its cold as this makes it a bit more brittle.
They have replaced a fair few of these.

Not good at all. So it seems nothing can be done to strengthen the stress points??
That's a shame going forward :(
