Electric hotplate(s)?

Has anyone used a 'remote' (as opposed to one fitted to oven top) electric hotplate? We are particularly interested in purchasing one of these so that it can be used either in the awning or, when dry, outdoors. The ones I have seen have two hotplates (1500w and 1000w respectively). Would these be two high a wattage to use on site?

The alternative is an alogen hotplate, but the ones on sale at the moment are 2000w!

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Ann,

As a rough guide divide the wattage by 250 ie 2000watts /250 = 8amps

Once you know the site amperage you can work out what to have switched on at any one time,

I use a twin hotplate ( 1500/1000watt )in the awning without problem in the UK.

In France I just use the 1000watt plate and a low wattage steamer.

You just need to be certain that you do not use any other high wattage appliance, such as an electric kettle, at the same time.

Thanks for your replies. I am now investigating which model(s) are best. Good to know that the twin hot plates work perfectly well in an awning. As we use CC sites I see no problem with the power supply. Thanks again.
