electrics extention cables 1 - 2 from car to caravan

ive only got the black cable connector on my car ,but i have seen these split extentions for black /gray.

do these work ok ?

far cheaper than getting the car fitted for caravan electrics.

If you only have a black 7 pin connector on you car you cannot split it to give you the grey 7 pin functions.

If you have a black 13 pin connector on your car - & it is fully wired which is a big IF - then you can use a splitter to get the old black & gray 7 pin connectors.

sorry , what i have is a standard black cable (uk)connector nut i have seen a converter in towsure but i think its a euro fit to uk.

maybe this thread will help someone else with the same thoughts.

if i have decoded your posts correctly, you have a 13pin on your van, and a 12n on the car?

If so i think you will find it cost effective to have the 13pin socket fitted to your car. You don't have to have any extra car wiring, but you will still only have the same basic functions as before.

when i had the socket fitted i only went for the 1 black socket for lights ,signals etc not the caravan electrics the grey 1 .but i think the connector i saw was for euro fitting to uk caravan.

at the moment i only use the 1 black cable fitted to the caravan when going away for the w/end.

i dont know how else to explain?

I think now that you have the two plugs on your van?

That being the case it is not possible for you to fit anything to your 12n socket to give you extra functions.

You must have the grey 12s socket fitted and wired.

agree with the post above you need to have he 12 s soket fitted to your car to gain the extra functions like charging the battery and running the fridge.

you could well get away with not using the 12S if you do not wish to take advantage of the above however you must understand that it is law in this country that if you van is fitted with rear fog lights or reversing lights then these must be in working condition which means you need to have the 12S fitted anyway. in hindsight its allways best and a whole lot cheaper to have both sockets fitted at the same time.

Hi David, not sure if you're hijacking shaynes thread here! If you had twin electrics fully wired on the car then yes, you can just feed both cables into a new 13pin socket but it may leave room for water ingress through the back. I've just fitted a new 13 pin socket to my car. It came fully wired with 1.5 mtrs cable and the back plate (which some have found difficult to locate in the past) so it just needed feeding into the boot and connecting to the existing wiring going to your present twin sockets. Let me know if you want details where I got mine from.

yes its that simple. You will need a mounting plate to support the 13 pin.(the centre hole has to be a lot larger)
