Model RM6270 as fitted in Coachman 460/2 2001.It wor4ks ok on mains and battery, but gas side of it erratic. It worked fine one day and next you would only get the flame then when releasing the button the flame goes out. I took the burner out and cleaned the thermo' coupler and blew the jet out, reassembled ans hey prest it worked, left for an hour went to relight it and nothing , this time no spark..When they say the gap should be 3mm do they mean the side of the thermo as you cannot get the point off the thermo 3mm friom the igniter. Any ideas chaps.

All work on gas applinces must be carried out by a competent person with a working knowledge of the appliance and the gas regulations.

Unathorised persons working on an installation may invalidate your insurance, and compromise you and your families safety.

Taking note of John's reply, the spark is indeed horizontal to the thermocouple so it's this gap that should be about 3mm. However it's not critical as the spark is capable of jumping as far as the closest earth, the circa 3mm gap then is to ensure this is the closest point to earth so offering the path of least resistance.

You should get a spark on every press of the Piezo, if not the Piezo is worn out or the lead to the igniter is shorting to earth along it's path.

A very common reason for not staying lit is the control knob hitting the fascia before bringing the thermocouple fully in contact inside the gas valve when you press the knob in. To test, having set the control into position pull the knob off push the valve spindle alone in and try lighting it now.

If the flame holds on like this then put a 1 to 2mm spacer in the control knob before replacing it.
