electrolux RM2262 queries

hi there, we have an RM2262 model fridge and i may appear stupid but was looking at older posts and came across one saying that the freezer section keeps the fridge cool. is this right? our freezer section does seem to be working except on very hot days when it defrosts itself, but the large fridge element does nothing at all and so i take off the freezer door to keep the rest of the fridge cool. am i doing wrong? should the fridge element get cold too? user manual not too helpfull really. we are about to use the van again next week and so would like to find answers to these questions before we go really, any help appreciated. thanks, teen

Yes you are doing wrong.
The fridge is an absorbtion refigerator which works by absorbing warm air inside the fridge. The freezer door should NOT be removed
The coldest part will be in the freezer box, which should get down to about -4 or -5 when working correctly.
The rest of the fridge will be at around +4.
This assumes the door seal is in good condition and sealing correctly.

Yours is an old fridge now, and may need servicing to restore its fully functional state, but with its age it wil almost certainly be losing performance due to corrosion inside the cooling coils, or maybe even through loss of coolant.

Partially blocked cooling coils wil reduce effectiveness of the system, as will partially obscured jet or venturi.

Whilst you may be told of a possible "cure" by turning the fridge upside down for a while to remix the coolant, this would only be a very temporary measure, as the coolant is normally being mixed all the time the fridge is ON.

If the problem is due to lack of service of the jet and venturi, it can be improved quite a lot, however if the cause is the cooling coils, then it will mean a new fridge .
