Emulsion on Ceilings

hi,

i was looking at loads of second hand caravans over the last few months and i noticed that the finish on a lot of the ceilings had faded, discoloured quite a bit. i noticed this as i am a painter and decorator to trade and my eye automatically scans ceilings, walls etc of any new place i go into to give me an impression of the way it has been looked after and maintained. i know that non smokers caravans will not have the same effect as quickly as smokers do, but they will eventually begin to lose their lustre. so, my question is, does anyone do as you do in your house and refresh the caravan ceiling with a new coat of emulsion ?. i don't foresee any problem in doing this, as long as it is carried out with someone who is competent enough.

cheers.

right folks, withoot getting silly about this, has anyone done this before ? as i said, i am quite sure i could easily refresh a ceiling this way.

oh, heres an idea, would any of you be willing to allow me to try this out ?, just remove yer ceiling and post it to me, i will cover the postage and packaging. then, when i have finished with it ye will get it back like new, then ye can tell all yer friends and give me return orders :)

Hi Highlander, I was a coachpainter signwriter back in the day, i repainted a ceiling in an Fleetwood i owned about 15 years ago, the surface of the ceiling board is a vinyl covering, i gave it a clean with some suger soap, then a thin coat of satin emulsion as close to the origanal colour as i could find, looked good and remained in good condition over a 2 year period.

highlander,

I would have thought that with the amount of condensation you get in the caravan, a good coat of Kitchen & Bathroom paint would do the job. As my van is only 4yrs old, the ceiling is still looking as new,

best regards, Martin

Highlander has been overcome by emulsion :0)

If I had to repaint a caravan roof panel first of all I'd use sugar soap and then a coat of eggshell finish. It works on mdf wardrobes and in restaurant kitchen areas so it should be ok for caravans.

I'd forgotten all about the German Market in Brum Sue, I really must get on the train and go!

Mundane domestic duties, trying to sort out my sons car insurance and shopping, shopping and more shopping have kept me busy.

I will send an email later today when I come back from..........

shopping :0)

gid yin parksy, i put it down to the fumes.

anyway, i know how to prepare any surface for taking on various types of paint, i was asking if anyone had ever done this to spruce up a well lived in caravan. mine doesn't need it done by the way, it was only a thought i had when i was sitting chilling and my painters eye scanned all the surfaces to check for discrepancies (these are things painters and decorators tend to do whenever they walk in a door, sad).

I know how it is Highlander, I was a painter and desecrator when I finished working but I've laid my Hamilton brushes down now after a stroke (brush / stroke - boom boom) I still have the painters eye for detail and colour though and I used to really enjoy my work :0)

Why not fit a suspended ceiling?

Then if you still feel the need to paint, you could remove a tile and emulsion it, even give them different colours?
