Hi thinking of changing to a fixed bed caravan, only concern is what sort of room is there for entertaining guest, when we go away we always seem to have family members turn up, at present we have a 5 berth twin axle, but we have always fancied a fixed bed just not sure if it would be the right thing to do, it took us long enough to get this caravan wouldn't want to sell it then regret the change.

Like to hear from anyone who has fixed bed layout, kids and entertains guests.

Thanks Jenny

With a fixed bed you will have plenty of room to entertain and no need to make up the bed...oh hang on a minute have I got hold of the wrong end of the stick!)

It would have to be you or the Old aristo, wouldn't it? I resisted the temptation, being a gentleman(Lisa's description, not mine!)

We had a fixed bed Coachman for a couple of years, and in the end found that it did not work for us, small lounge, and small kitchen and tiny toilet come shower room. Now gone back to a conventional layout (Bailey Senator Arizona) and love it, much prefer the extra room for the sake of a couple of minuets bed making, but hey one mans meat, and it would not do for us all to like the same thing, and plenty of people on here love there fixed beds and would not change them for the world, do a search under fixed bed's, I think you will find it has been discussed to the death.

Jennifer,

We have the Bailey Senator Indiana, which has the fixed bed, we have not encountered any problems whilst we entertain, max so far 6, bit of a tight squeeze on the dinette seats but managed OK

We bought a 16ft Ace with fixed bed to rear of van - worst move we ever made. The fixed bed takes up almost half the floor space and is a d**n nuisance. Also whoever sleeps on the wall side has to climb over the other to get out thereby disturbing the sleeping partner. We are both in our early 60s. but like to think of ourselves still quite agile but it is a nuisance climbing over. We are seriously thinking of going back to a five berth layout similar to the Bailey 500/5 and doing away with the fixed berth van (part ex.) If you live in south Wales and want to purchase it you are quite welcome. New Oct 2006 but 2007 model and used twice. Selling with awning.

Hi Colin

I would agree, ours is for sale as we don't thinks it's practical with a 12 year old, no space for her!!

Lolly found the solution. Find a friend on site without a fixed bed and go there for entertainment!.

Well, to be honest. Lolly is the entertainment!

It seems to be a NO to fixed beds then, maybe we should stick with what we have. Thanks to all for advice think we'll take another year out of this one then re-think, that is unless someone out there has one and can change my mind.

Many regards jenny

Hi Colin

We made the same mistake, went from side dinette with end bathroom to fixed bed with washroom in the corner, worst thing we could have done, so changed to Wyoming, still fixed bed but end washroom so best of both worlds as far as we are concerned

We have a fixed bed Senator Oklahoma and we love it. While it's a 4-berth 'van, it probably doesn't work so well with children who might need to go to bed earlier than mum & dad. Superbly comfortable, though, and the long front seats make entertaining a doddle - that was the main reason we didn't buy an Indiana which we thought we might like.

Why not buy your fixed bed van, erect an awning and youve got bags of room for entertaining giving you the best of both worlds.

We had a fixed bed Indiana ,my wife didnt like sleeping against the wall ,plus the toilet & shower are cramped ,and the front seating can only seat 2 each side ,so we have now bought a T/A Lunar Lexon 640 with rear island bed separate shower and toilet ,and a front dinette that seats 4 each side

Hi Jenny

You seem to be getting a mixed reaction and those who do not like a fixed bed seem to be shouting the loudest!

We have a fixed bed and I would not chance it for the world. Like those who have said the same we have never had a problem with room for entertaining and it is so convenient when one wishes to go to bed first.

It is also nice to have a place to have a proper lie down during the day if required or if someone is unwell during your time away.

I like a proper made up bed..not sleeping bags and cushions put together to lie on.

But I respect those who wish to make up beds every night and store the bedding away during the day.

It would not make as interesting a world if we were all the same and so in the end it is yourselves who have to decide what is best for you and what you want out of the caravan layout.

Good luck in your choice...Joyce
