estate & saloon

hi folks , been looking at new shape vw passatt, 2 cars i like same spec , miles, year , even colour , both up for the job but why does a saloon car cost 4k less than an estate car , to me it just seems to be a little bit more roof....pete

Dunno, Pete, but there seems to be a lot more estates around than saloons.

I got the estate because I wanted another Passat, (it`s now my third), and because I didn`t like the `lardy-arse` look of the saloon (but that bit is just subjective!).

Oh, and rearward/three quarter vision is pretty abysmal in the saloon.

Saloons are unpopular - secondhand buyers want hatchbacks and estates - hence the price differential.

If the back end layout doesn't bother you, buy the saloon.

There is now a trend from SUVs and MPVs back to large estates so I guess that it is supply and demand again.
