Well i have used one of these for that very purpose yes their are cheaper one's about but this one is IP64 so it should be ok with the odd heavy rain storm, the other thing is if you are off grid it will come in useful
It's fastened to a short piece of draught skirt cord to enable it to be moved along the awning rail it has it's own pir to activate it & then it stays on for about 30sec after you have moved out of the detection area
It can be mounted anywhere you want ...
