Every cloud has a silver lining - sort of.....

Just got back from 8 nights away. Things got off to a literally bumpy start!

Loaded up the van, a 20 year old Swift Rapide with a questionable ability to keep out the rain, and was pulling it off the drive when it hit the recently re-surfaced path outside my house that used to have a nice bump that acted as a brake to stop the caravan rolling too far - except that now its not there so the van careered down the drive, into the fence post, then into a bollard before dropping off the kerb.

This resulted in the side rail pulling the rear end of the van away, and a huge split appearing in the front of the van. The floor was so damp however that a square foot sized chunk was torn out.

So after much kicking and application of tape we set off only for more of the 20 year old floor to fall away.

When we set up on site the 12 volt system decided to intermittently die, and when it was working the water pump decided to die completely.

There's the cloud.

Having decided that the van was, well, @%$&ed completely we walked into a local dealer and there was a 1991 Swift Corvette

in perfect condition, hardly been used at all at a very reasonable price! So we take delivery of our nice shiny van next wednesday.

And there's the Silver lining!

By the way, does anyone want to buy a 1988 Swift Rapide with slight bodywork damage, slight damp everywhere, slightly knackered electrics, a gas fire that doesnt work, a fridge that doesnt work, a water supply that doesnt work and a spare roll of duck tape? It's sold as seen by the way.

Its new vent makes it very airy too.

Thanks - can't wait! The old van had cold water and a porta potty that's it! The new one has hot water, an oven, a shower and is really nice inside - and doesn't appear to have any holes, cracks or fire hazards!

Congrats Paul, hope your new van is all you want, and more.

I'm faintly puzzled though - you went away for 8 mights after the van fell to bits?! and with a whacking hole in the floor?!!!

You, sir, are a far more dedicated caravanner than I will ever be ;)
