Caravan insurance just arrived at £320.00 as well as storage fees of £420.00 being due so June has not started well.
To rub salt into the wound we usually spend on average one week a month away with the van showing dogs as well as holidays so for 16 weeks of the year we are not using the storage site

Grin and bear it. At least you are getting 16 weeks away with a commensurate reduction in domestic bills offset somewhat by site fees. Not a bad deal. Envious of South West.

We are managing 4 nights a month away as well as trying to save like mad for France and then we have shifted our van from the storage facility which was 25 minutes down the road to a facility which is just around the corner , literally I can walk there in two minutes saving quite a bit on fuel but an extra £22 on our insurance for keeping it there , and we had to pay £25o upfront for the new storage site as well as still having 5 months left and paid for on the other storage site :( no refund , but the space was there and I took it so in the long run I will save if fuel not having to go down there and pick it up and bring it back . Swings & roundabouts .
I ride pass it everyday so I myself can keep a check on it as well as it being watched by the ones that live there .

I know how you feel, storage fees every six months of £220, caravan insurance, £325 car insurance , water rates, house insurance, I suppose we are getting the best, from storage fees, getting out about every two months for 10 days, due to dental appointments and hospital appointments, and we don't go out at bank holidays. Brought the caravan home last year to have tyres changed on the drive way and had the neighbours in for a couple of bottles of wine and a BBQ, sad we are.

Yes I know the problem a;though our costs are a bit more spread out. Storage is £420 in January although we pay by installments, Insurance in March about £320 and service £240 later this month. Basically it has cost us about £1,000 before it has moved and that ignores depreciation. If you add site fees and the extra fuel used towing I hate to think what we spend.

Agree and we probably own a larger less economic car with which to tow the caravan too, with its attendant higher lifetime costs. Apart from the costs you quote in the last 12 months my van has had a new rear panel (warranty fortunately) but any future problems like that fall to me. A new axle non warranty. The car with FSH etc etc and low mileage has just had to have a new Haldex pump. My cost. At times I really can sympathise with Damocles.

Closest storage to just is just down the road however they are well over £500 per annum. The other closer storage is a CASSOA site, but we had to move from there as security was very dubious. Came back one weekend to find out that the lock to the storage area had bene broken since the Friday but no one had bothered. Then our parking place was taken.

I forgot that when I did the costs. I do tend to let it exp[ire though when there is a gap n between towing duties as in that time the cars own makers breakdown insurance is enough.

We are quite ok with the costs, although the storage and insurance hit us in August, the van gives us cheap holidays in places we'd never be able to stay in otherwise, at about a fifth of the cost of running the boat We had before.

Tooshay or something like that , before we got the caravan we used to do Centre Parcs and a long weekend would cost between 2 and £400 depending where you went but the caravan compare to that is cheap as chips !! :)
