Extended warranties

Is it worth taking out an extended warranty. Barrons offer a 4th and 5th year extended warranty that includes the first service (£180) for £295. It seems a good deal, but I would like some confirmation from experienced folk. Thanks

Hi Kevin,

I took out a extended warranty on our 2000 Avondale Golden Mayfair,We had already had 3 new water pumps,2 new sink worktops, cooker door, new wash-hand basin, sliding door to bedroom repaired, washroom resealed and various broken catches replaced. This was all within the normal 3 year warranty period.

We are no way heavy handed with our van and this was just normal use!.

I was glad we did take out the warranty, because just before it expired the floor around the sink-unit started to de-laminate and the shower tray cracked.

So as you can imagine the repair bill would have far outweighed the extra cost of the warranty.

Hope this helps to make up your mind if it is worth the extra cost or not!

Regards Nidge

bought our van from barrons at Earls Court, salesman was from Yorkshire branch. collected from coppull. Now I have moved away from the NW area I have to return to coppull for servicing if the warranty is to continue. this is a bit of a problem so try to agree any branch for your annual service if you can

Hi Tony,

As a caravan mechanic said to me "Avondale are no worse or better than any British van". Now the van is 6 years old we are trading it in for a new Hymer Nova. The build quality of the German vans is vastly Superior to the British vans, but at a higher price!
